Rabee Al Mukhalalati, General Manager at ASOS, related the latest developments within the Ali & Sons family of companies. Report by Phil Nicholls.

Over the last 44 years, Ali & Sons Holdings has gone from strength to strength, with a passion for excellence. Ali & Sons Oilfield Supplies & Services (ASOS) recently demonstrated

“This was indeed an honour,” explained General Manager Rabee Al Mukhalalati. “Such an accomplishment required unwavering determination, commitment and collaborative efforts from the entire ASOS team. We remain dedicated to enhancing our QHSE performance, with the goal of ensuring a safe and healthy workplace.

“The team is committed to maintaining this high level of dedication.”

Ali & Sons LLC was established in 1979 as a quality service provider to the oil and gas industry. From this point, the UAE-based company steadily diversified into a range of industries within the country, becoming Ali & Sons Holdings. The portfolio includes automotive retail and real estate companies, all under the Ali & Sons umbrella.

Oil and gas projects

Yet the varied companies in the group have always been closely involved with the oil and gas industry: “ASOS benefits from this diversification,” Mr Al Mukhalalati continued. “This gives us a competitive advantage, enables the provision of a wide range of comprehensive solutions and enhances our appeal to investors.”

ASOS supplies a vast range of equipment for offshore and onshore oil and gas facilities, along with water and power installations. These services are driven by decades of experience from some of the most skilled engineers in the industry.

Based in Abu Dhabi, ASOS operates from a 20,000sqm facility that is fully equipped for oilfield operations. This site includes a private jetty to allow marine service companies to easily reach ASOS.

After almost five decades of providing materials and services to the energy sector, ASOS took a significant step in late 2021 and established a manufacturing arm, Ali & Sons Oilfield Equipment Manufacturing (ASOEM). This is a comprehensive industrial complex spanning over 30,000 sqm. ASOEM includes machine shops, warehouses and vendor-managed inventory yards. ASOEM efficiently sup -

ports various ASOS services, such as aerated mud services, downhole tools rental and directional drilling services.

“Beyond being a facility, ASOEM represents our unwavering commitment to the local industry,” said Mr Al Mukhalalati. “ASOEM is a hub of innovation and a symbol of the forward-thinking spirit that drives both ASOS and the UAE’s economy forward.”

Serving diverse sectors

Another part of Ali & Sons Holdings is Ali & Sons Marine Engineering Factory (ASMEF), founded in 2009. This company serves the marine sector as well as the oil and gas industry in the UAE. ASMEF boasts a committed team of highly qualified designers who specialise in structural

steelwork, piping and pressure vessels. ASOS and ASMEF collaborate closely to deliver projects to clients in the UAE.

Such a collaborative approach is evident in the partnership between Ali & Sons and Rosetti Marino, creating Rosetti Ali & Sons (RAS). Serving the energy industry, RAS offers full EPC capabilities for large and intricate facilities, both offshore and onshore. This brings several advantages to the group, including end-to-end solutions, diversification, technical expertise, enhanced market competitiveness, innovation and risk mitigation.

“This collaboration with Rosetti Marino strategically positions the group to provide a broad spectrum of services and solutions in the energy sector,” Mr Al Mukhalalati explained. “RAS further solidifies Ali & Sons’ presence in the market.”

With localisation a strong trend within the region, Ali & Sons is dedicated to the growth of local economies. The group is proud to source the majority of its materials locally. Another example of this within the Ali & Sons Holdings family is the Muhur House Trading & Oil-Field Supplies and Services Company. This company specialises in providing essential equipment and services to the oil and gas industry, with a primary focus on serving the Iraqi market.

The dedication to the local market is what makes Ali & Sons unique, according to Mr Al Mukhalalati: “ASOS offers a distinct experience compared to our local competitors. This distinction enables us to facilitate trade to the complete satisfaction of our clients.

“We provide them with reliable services, bolstered by ongoing support from overseas

manufacturers and a track record of successful field performance throughout the region.”

A caring company

The recognition by ADNOC Onshore of ASOS’s commitment to HSE objectives is a testament to the way the company works with suppliers and partners.

“Building long-term relationships is a fundamental part of our business strategy,” Mr Al Mukhalalati continued. “These relationships are of paramount importance to our success, as they allow us to collaborate effectively, ensure the quality and safety of our operations, and ultimately achieve our business goals.”

Alongside HSE commitments, ASOS is also dedicated to its ESG programme with a range of projects, including the collective goal within the group to plant a remarkable 10,000 trees by the year 2025.

The ‘Recycle, Reforest, Repeat’ programme is another ESG project at Ali & Sons Holdings. “This initiative has been nothing less than a remarkable achievement of recycling a substantial 4,707 kilos of paper through our collective efforts,” said Mr Al Mukhalalati. “In recognition of this accomplishment, we were honoured to receive a certificate of appreciation from the Emirates Environmental Group.”

Overcoming challenges

Like many in the industry, ASOS has grappled with global supply issues and the unpredictable geopolitical instability in regions that are key to oil production. These challenges required ASOS to implement

adaptable strategies and comprehensive contingency plans. These measures were vital to ensure the company’s uninterrupted flow of operations in the face of the ever-changing global landscape.

Looking ahead, ASOS plans to expand regionally as the main integrated service provider and manufacturing company. In addition, ASOS is dedicated to the decarbonisation initiative, integrating Go-Green practices and emissions reduction. The company is focused on developing new technologies and local capability within the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 goal.

As the General Manager at ASOS, Mr Al Mukhalalati is motivated by the dynamic and challenging nature of the industry: “My excitement comes from the need for innovation, global impact, problemsolving, team leadership, environmental responsibility, strategic decision-making, industry connections and the sector’s economic resilience.

“These aspects collectively drive my commitment to leading a successful oil and gas division and making a meaningful impact in the industry.” n
