PRINCETON PUBLIC LIBRARY TECHNOLOGY CLASSES SPRING, 2013
Princeton Public Library offers a variety of computer courses for the public. No registration required, unless otherwise indicated. Seating is first come, first seated and is limited. The second session for our two-part classes will be reserved for students who attended the first session. Class descriptions are online at www.princetonlibrary.org (click on Attend, then Technology). Classes are in the second floor Technology Center, unless otherwise indicated. Skill Levels Novice: Student has no prior computer experience. Basic: Student knows how to turn on a computer, operate a mouse and launch software. Intermediate: In addition to basic skills, user can navigate various websites, multiple tabs, understand email applications, and download documents, music and photos. Advanced: Student needs to have specific knowledge which is indicated in the class description.

Tuesday, Feb. 19, 7-8:30 p.m. For those with a new iPad or who just want to see what the hype is all about, this class, taught by Mac specialist Caitlin Trought, covers what the device can do, its basic operation and some fun apps. Skill Level: Basic

Wednesday, Feb. 20, 6:30-8:30 p.m. In this two-hour session, John LeMasney shows you how to make interesting, sharable graphics that help you make your point. We’ll look at some examples of great infographics, recreate one or two, and then use what you learned to make an original personal infographic. Skill Level: Intermediate
Google Drive: Online Storage Made Easy
Thursday, Feb. 21, 7-8:30 p.m. Join Lynette Young, digital media expert, as she demonstrates Google Drive, an application that allows you to store your files on Google’s servers, or “in the cloud”. With Google Drive you can access your online files from anywhere, can work with your colleagues in real time, share documents and add comments. Skill Level: Basic Lynette Young

Downloading eBooks
Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2-3 p.m. Learn how you to use eLibraryNJ and Axis360, the library’s free digital e-book collections. Bring your own digital e-reader or mobile device for hands-on help. Participants must have an active library card to use the digital collection. Axis 360 is a digital media platform that works with a free e-reader application called Blio. Skill Level: Basic
Microsoft Excel for Beginners
Session 1: Wednesday, March 6, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Session 2: Wednesday, March 13, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Become familiar with Microsoft Excel 2007 with training expert Sharon Bancroft. This two-part course includes formatting cells and sheets, adding icons to the Quick Access Toolbar, filling a series of data, creating formulas and charts, sorting and filtering in tables, linking cells, using functions and repeating cells and working with header and footers. Skill Level: Basic

Thursday, March 7, 10-11 a.m. Public libraries are not only a great place to start your job search but a destination throughout the process. Learn about the resources that Princeton Public Library and other New Jersey public libraries offer and utilize them each step of the way. The session will identify the best resources for resume and cover letter templates, online study tutorials for skill building, software tutorials, identifying job openings, researching the company before the interview and more. Friday, March 15, 1-2 p.m. Come learn about Zinio, the newest way to access magazines. Our Zinio collection offers a downloadable selection of 71 popular titles such as Consumer Reports, Newsweek, and National Geographic that you can read on your computer or device. We offer a variety of subject areas including health, home, science and technology, news, cooking, parenting and crafts. Current issues, anytime, anywhere! No due dates! We will also talk about what is available in our print collection and how to access magazines through our subscription databases. You must have a Princeton Public Library card to access Zinio. Advanced iPhoto: Maximize Your Memories
Tuesday, March 26, 1-2:30 p.m. You’ve learned the basics of using iPhoto, and are inspired to learn more! In this class, we will explore some of iPhoto’s more powerful features, including the advanced editing tools, slideshow-iTunes integration, and face recognition. Monday, April 8, 7-8:30 p.m. Wondering what to do with all of those video memories that you know you could be enjoying more? Are they trapped on your phone, camera or sd card?
