Cooling Tower Monitoring Program Our Cooling Tower Monitoring (CTM) Program puts needed real-time data into the hands of our clients so they can manage key aspects of their cooling tower operations. We also provide ongoing consultation expertise to help them solve related cooling tower issues to achieve optimum efficiency. Our initial CTM Program offering focuses on ‘water efficiency,’ enabling cooling tower operators maximize the efficiencies of their water and chemical usage. The second generation of our CTM Program offering will include ‘water quality’ measures, providing cooling tower operators useful information regarding ph, ORP, conductivity, etc. The third generation of our CTM Program will include the realtime monitoring of all water meters throughout a building, providing facility managers the ability to more manage and understand their overall water usage. The two primary benefits of enrolling into the program are the calculation of the cycles of concentration, as well as the detection of overflows and leaks. Cycles of Concentration The calculation of the cycles of concentration is an important benefit for cooling tower operators, as many are being held captive by the water chemical companies servicing them. Measuring and managing cycles of concentration will maximize water and chemical usage, while avoiding any equipment damage due to scaling. The “sweet spot” for the number of cycles in generally between 3-6 cycles. However, cooling tower operators tend NOT to have access to this level of information. Our monitoring service provides real-time information, which our clients can access to effectively manage their own number of cycles - maximizing water and chemical usage. Overflows and Leak Detection Overflows tend to occur when the float valve gets stuck in the open position, causing severe water waste because the water that is coming into the water cooling (through the make-up valve) is being directly dumped (through the blowdown valve) into the sewer system. Overflows can go undetected for weeks, literally wasting thousands of gallons of water, causing clients to absorb a massive water/sewer bill at the end of the month. Overflows are a major concern for cooling tower operators, with many of them being currently limited to discovering an overflow through physical observation, or by happenstance during routine maintenance. Our monitoring system will detect an overflow or a leak in a pipe in a matter of hours, not days or weeks. Cooling Tower Monitoring Program Enrollment into the Cooling Tower Monitoring (CTM) Program The investment to enroll into our CTM Program is a flat $2,500, and includes the installation of ArkEnergy Group’s monitoring equipment and the commissioning of the client real-time dashboard. ArkEnergy Group retains ownership of their monitoring equipment, and assumes complete responsibility for its proper functioning. Enrollment fees do NOT include municipal fees, including the cost of water meters and installation, application fees, participation fees, and permits. There are instances when a wireless transimitter is required when the distance between the make-up meter and blow-down meter is significant. In this instance, an additional $1,000 is added to the $2,500 enrollment fee. Each CTM enrollment fee is per water provider account, and includes one cooling tower on one water meter. A cooling tower water account can be for a single cooling tower, or may bundle multiple water cooling towers if common make-up and blow-down valves are installed. Basically, the number cooling tower water accounts is defined by the number of water accounts a client has that are associated with the cooling towers. The enrollment fee for each additional water provider account is $1,800. Multiple cooling towers on one water meter may require additional equipment and labor. In this instance, a customized enrollment fee will be determined based on the specific cooling tower layout. For example, if there are four cooling towers physically located near one another, and one make-up/blow-down valve covers all four units, then the client pays for only one enrollment at $2,500, plus one monthly monitoring charge - in which the water usage will be identified on one bill. If the are four cooling towers spread out over a roof-top of a large building, each connected to separate make-up/blow-down valves, then the client pays for four enrollments at $12,000, plus four monthly monitoring charges - in which the water usage will be identified on four water/sewer bills. Monthly Monitoring On ongoing monthly monitoring fees generally range from $200-$600 per month per cooling tower water account, and be determined upon submission of 12months of water bills as well as the layout of the cooling tower configuration. A “hibernation fee” of $120 per month will apply during times the cooling tower(s) are shut down for seasonal weather purposes. The client is responsible to notify AEG by phone call or email when shutting down for the season, and when starting up for the season. A client may ‘hibernate” their cooling tower(s) for one period per year, up to 5 months in duration. Once calculated, the monthly monitoring fee remains fixed, though it can increase on an annual basis, not to exceed an For questions or to gain access to our live beta site, contact: martecserv@aol.com
