TRENDS IN PHILANTHROPY NATIONAL TRENDS

Steven Webster Chief Executive Officer

•  Funding multidisciplinary and sometimes multiinstitutional approaches to solving problems. Looking at funding work that is cross-disciplinary like the problems themselves. •  Interested in funding work that is “on the ground,” not necessarily research-focused – is it going to change people’s lives? •  Favoring national/international-level collaborative, multi-partner initiatives will our work fit a larger context. No one organization can do it all.

•  Incorporating a strong advocacy, policy, and/or social justice overlay to the projects/initiatives they fund. •  Placing greater emphasis on scalability and sustainability…what happens when our support goes away…are we creating change that lasts… •  Funders are moving away from giving to traditional 501(c)3 non-profits and increasingly giving to new kinds of organizations and structures such as B Corporations, L3Cs, program related investments, and public-private partnerships.
