DRESS IT UP

Brit Sviggum (Norway) Welcome to our Dress it Up Feature. Each issue we bring you a project that has started off simple, then is ‘dressed up’! This month, Brit Sviggum shows us how with this gorgeous project.

SIMPLE AND CLASSY

DRESS IT UP

I created the first version of this project as a clean and simple layout with barely any embellishments and just a single photo.

To dress up this layout, I added extra photos along with paper cut-outs, flowers, stickers and then used 3d glue dots to give extra dimension.

LAST

CHRISTMAS Leslie Ashe (USA) I created this project using Prima’s North Country, Printery and Welcome To Paris collections. I was inspired by the beautiful turquoise tones of the papers to which I added contrasting colors such as red, crème and green to give the feel of Christmas.

MY LITTLE GOLFER

Cari Fennell (USA) Is it possible to use flowers on masculine layouts? Absolutely! I wanted to share this layout with our readers to give you an idea of how to incorporate flowers when you have male subjects in your photographs. On this layout of my youngest son, I used flowers that have a rustic feel, neutral tones and are made from textured fabrics. This style of flower add interest and appeal to the project without making it look too feminine.

KISSING

BALL Jennifer Matott (USA) I created this holiday decoration using the Prima Craftsman collection and a variety of flowers. I was inspired by the Victorian tradition of decorating with flowers in a kissing ball. The blues, creams and silver colors of the Craftsman line are perfect for wintery projects.

WHERE WE CREATE Inside the studio of Leslie Ashe

Hi there! I’m Leslie Ashe & I’m SO excited to share my scrap studio with you! I’m from Fort Worth, Texas. I’m married to the cutest guy ever – for 22 years now. We have two college aged kids – Savannah (21) & Shaypher (20). Scrapbooking/crafting has been a part of my life for, well ever! Honestly – serious creating began for me about 15 years ago when my kids were little. I started from a closet where I stored most of my scrap gear, to half of my bedroom, to this incredible studio my husband helped me design. I am blessed beyond belief to serve on the Prima Marketing design team! It’s such an honor to be here to share my creative space with you. Just looking in my room, you can see I have numerous places to store items – even without having a closet in this room! It used to be the master dining room, then my husband’s office, now my studio. It is easy to give every item I use a special home. I hope you enjoy looking into where I create!

WHERE WE CREATE

Q&A 1. WHAT INSPIRED YOUR DESIGN AND THE COLORS OF YOUR CRAFT ROOM? This room used to be my husband’s office & he decided he wanted to move his office to our enclosed patio. He drew my room up on paper and we moved it around (on paper) until it was the perfect fit. We then began building my room from there. I wanted a neutral color because I knew I wanted to decorate with a lots of red, robin’s egg blues and a hint of yellow or green here and there. My furniture is all dark so I knew a light neutral “kraft” color would be perfect!

2. HOW DO YOU STORE YOUR PRIMA PRODUCTS? I have lots of fun storage, especially for my Prima products. I have my papers lined up in paper files, my flowers in a HUGE basket I keep in a bookcase. Inks in a ball jar, tiny baskets for my crystals & stamps and a big basket by my window for all my other Prima goodies.

{ 26 } MY PRIMA PLACE

3. HOW DO YOU DISPLAY/STORE YOUR PRIMA PROJECTS? I display my Prima projects different ways. When I have just finished working on a piece, I put in a file stand. If it is a card or a tag, I use an old vintage “frog” on top of my cabinets.

4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE OF FURNITURE IN YOUR ROOM? My favorite piece of furniture right now is my desk. It’s where I create, where I sit and put things together.

5. HOW MUCH TIME PER WEEK DO YOU SPEND IN YOUR CRAFT ROOM? I don’t have a set amount of time I spend in here, but I do know it’s daily. Sometimes hours on end. It’s my escape, my getaway. I love my room!

6. WHAT TIME OF THE DAY DO YOU USUALLY CREATE? I create any time of the day – whatever and whenever I can.

WHERE WE CREATE

MY PRIMA PLACE { 27 }

WHERE WE CREATE

7. DO YOU HAVE AN INSPIRATION BOARD AND IF SO WHAT WOULD YOU BE MOST LIKELY TO HAVE PINNED ON IT? I do have an inspiration board. You would find lots of COLORFUL things and lots of dimensional items. I LOVE color, texture & dimension.

8. DO YOU LISTEN TO MUSIC OR WATCH TELEVISION WHILE YOU CREATE? I do both! Whatever I’m in the mood for. I’m either catching up on some shows I’ve recorded or listening to my iTunes.

9. IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR ROOM, WHAT WOULD IT BE? I wouldn’t change one single thing about my room! Even without having a closet! (ha!)

10. WHAT IS YOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE PRIMA PRODUCT? My all time favorite Prima product is – actually I can’t choose just ONE so I’ll list several: Masks, Letters, Papers, Inks, Stamps, etc....the list goes on!

Jodie grew up on the Central Coast of New South Wales in Australia, surrounded by the beauty of the Australian coastline and the bush. Her first job after high school was as a graphic designer for the Australian Navy in 1991. There she learned to draw with a computer using the very first version of Photoshop. The birth of her daughter in 2001 and the rise in popularity

of digital photography led Jodie to new creative endeavours. She discovered that she could combine words, text and images in an exciting new way referred to as Digital Scrapbooking. Jodie began designing and selling her own digital scrapbooking kits online and soon developed a small, but successful name brand ‘Gypsy Chick Designs’.
