Thank you for taking the time to look thru our Spring 2014 Boar Book. We have been absolutely thrilled with the major wins in the showring all across the South & Southwest. It is also very gratifying to see our customers being very successful in selling their prospects with many of the top 20 selling prospects in the breeds and crossbreds being sired by Premium Blend Genetics sires. We have been very fortunate to have avoided PEDv and our hearts and prayers go out to all those who have had to go thru the disease - especially those who were hit in prime farrowing season. We have recently completed renovation of our isolation facility, located 15 miles from the exisitng boar stud, and have moved 10 of our top 20 boars to that location to reduce the risk of all boars being affected at the same time. That facility has everything in place to collect process and ship semen. We are grateful to all of our customers and we will continue to try to earn your business by providing the most elite genetics possible and by treating each customer a little bettter than we would expect to be treated. When we introduced Superman
"We believed we were now being handed the best Berkshire we had ever seen – period – no debate – no question – not a close second" Superman has obviously done his part to back that claim up and we LOVED Superman as he got the ball rolling for us. But when we were handed his full brother Big Gulp and his son SuperFly, we said we thought we just moved to a whole new level. They backed that claim up big time this fall/winter. Big Gulp is massive boned and massive chested and reaches out and just grabs the ground like his big brother but does it with a freakier front end that explodes out of his blade. Big Gulp’s littermates went 1st & 5th in gilts & 6th in barrows & San Antonio in 2013. We are grateful to the Jones and Bennett Families for letting Big Gulp come to PBG to keep the Berskshire stable full of great options.

Heat Stroke was a February boar we did not do justice to in the hustle to get the stud started. We did him
a disservice by not showing him at the open house but those that saw him later loved him and used him on some really good females. The most massive Berkshire we offer with a tail set and set to his rear two that is ideal AND it is all wrapped up in a perfectly marked jet-black package. As we have discussed elsewhere, most of the boars in stud have some great females behind them and he has our best 2 Berkshire sows directly behind him on the bottom side – Hattie – Grand Gilt 2010 InSF & Miss Hathaway the 2008 Team Purebred Foundation Female who is the basis for everything in our Berkshire program. bone this one has already is incredible and as you can see from the video he absolutely floats around the yard. May have the best set to his pasterns we have on any boar of any breed. That draws you in and THEN HE TURNS AND WALKS AWAY - and that is when the Oh My #$^**^&%^ comments start. W e were searching for the Berkshire boar to get the front ends up and add extension to go back on the powerful Berkshire females that have been rolling out the
last few years. The 1st class of gilts @ WPX was won by Boland’s gilt we thought was way good in those areas. She went on to win 4th Overall Berkshire @ WPX Then we saw her littermate barrow that ended up being 3rd Overall @ WPX and we got real interested in their sire TNT. The gilt then came back a few weeks later to win Champion Berkshire & 3rd Overall @ Team Purebred and sold privately for $8500. So we approached Mr. Harlan Reid at Springfield about the possibility of working something out on TNT and were able to come to an agreement to bring him to Premium Blend. TNT continued his great summer with Sheets’ Reserve Barrow @ InSF 4-H. Not much needs to be said about this “living legend” in the Berkshire breed. Sired 9 State Fair Champion or Reserve Champion Berkshire Barrows in his 2011 crop including the Champion Berk barrow at Wisconsin that Warren Beeler said was the best he had seen! Torge’s track record of winning shows is unrivaled and we are thrilled to have him here at PBG. We loved him and his littermate sister at NBS and were not surprised that he accomplished what he did in his first full season. When we picked him up from Bryce this summer, it was even more obvious to us why he has been so successful. He is massive boned, extremely sound, and very tall at the point of his shoulder. We think this guy can continue his dominance in siring better Berkshires for many years to come! The buyers list of Torge semen is a who’s who of the Berkshire breed as they recognize the very unique things Torge offers. We think Torge offers another very good option on Superman daughters. Shelbi Gordon exhibited an OYE Class-winning gilt bred by the Gordon’s with Superman on a Torge daughter and confirmed what we thought that mating could produce. Torge continues his impressive run with the Top Selling Gilt @ the WPX Opens Show bred by Kent Brattain & Family. He also produced the 2013 IJSC Champion Berk & 2nd Overall Points barrow—Shown by Jester & bred by Larry White / Nathan Day. One of our prime objectives tlast summer was to bring a GREAT Duroc to PBG. We had heard reports and saw videos of lots of really good red ones heading to WPX and the show did not disappoint in our opinion and WISE GUY was one of the key reasons we thought the show was stout. Bugatti is our $20,000 Top-Selling Duroc purchase from Rick May at the 2013 NSR STC. As good a red boar to make barrows as we can imagine. Busted way open front to rear. Dead square all four corners. Beautifully extended yet powerful head and neck. That first look is always a key one and the first look you get when Bugatti comes rolling at you is incredibly impressive. We feel Brian Anderson described Bugatti very well in his summary of the STC Duroc sale in the Seedstock Edge where he said: “This guy had a presence like no other, was super square & look liked a barrow-show winner needs to look, If your goal is to make a red one that can win hog shows, then you better take a serious look… This one had a style and class all his own.” We agree. Combines power and freak in a very cool red package. Bugatti has become a beast since he has been home and has a huge full flank to match his awesome base width and look. We have always admired the WD Swine program and have been looking for the right “WATJE
BLUE” boar to come to PBG. We think we have found that boar in B.B. KING! Not only does he bring the trademark look, design, and balance that the W-D firm is known for—but he has added mass, bone, and power that we think sets him apart!!!! The ultra-attractive blue color scheme is out in full force in this guy making him a unique sire that we highly recommend! Seems like everybody wants at least one “Blue” boar in stud. We didn’t just want any “blue” we wanted a GREAT “blue” boar and we think we found him- B.B .KING – the king of the “BLUES”! We have had our 1st babies out of BB King and they look way stout, way freaky headed and DEEP blue colored. Reports from customers like the Nott’s (pictured) have seen similar results. May be real fun on him if you are looking for a stout blue option.

Most loved Bone Collector as far as his massive bone, design and up-headed style but some wondered about rib and body. Bone Collector buried that concern about 5 miles deep this winter and nobody will ever worry about Bone Chill in those areas. Truly MASSIVE everywhere you look. Thrilled to get this son in stud and rolling. Bone Chill's mother raised the Solomon gilt that was Reserve Cross and 3rd Overall @ the 2011 InSF and is consistently one of the top producers for the Lawyer's. Visitors have frequently commented that the picture of Chill does not do him justice and that he ranks in the very top group of boars they have seen this fall. When he saw the video the Messner’s had posted of Bone Yard , he called me right away to tell me I needed to take a look. What I saw blew me away, the most monster legged boar I had seen that had incredible BEAR CLAWS for feet, was as flexible as a Romanian gymnast, and had that classic Bone Colector up-headed Tennessee Walking-horse gait. I called Garrett & Jake in to take a look to make sure I wasn’t missing something and they both quickly said - buy him now!!!. About 10 minutes later he was headed to Premium Blend. Off-spring will be sound as a cat. Color will follow the dam. Pure Yorks tend to be very largely snow white, belts go belted, sows that have red will get calico or red-belts. Babies are immature and very loose in their design. Babies will tend be not shredded early but when you want it you can get it - FAST. He will put as monster a channel down a top as any.
Most common trend on where he works - Take him to as much bone and width as you can. He lets great sows do their stuff. We think he is a “breeders” boar. You can see the twinkle in the eye of the guys that saw what he did on their stuff this year as they have a year under their belt to know where to go to really make it fun. We think that if you know how to use him - the aisles will clear when the GunSlingers roll into the show. We had discussed purchasing a Swagger son with Jesse for a few months so on our way back from an
awesome OYE, we stopped thru to see 3 sons he had retained We were very impressed with all 3 of the boars. When we were able to finalize the purchases of BONE THUG & BONE CHILL for our exotic line-up, we figured we were out of the picture on any of them. But when the boar Jesse told us most resembled his dad was going for what we thought was an absolute steal, we could not pass him up. If Jesse had said we could have the #HASHTAG for $6000 when we stopped thru, I would have loaded him in the back seat of the car - and it was my wife's car!!! Here is how #Hashtag was described in the on-line sale. - “89-1 represents everything that's been so good and so consistent with Swagger offspring. Of this trio, he's the most 'typical' of a Swagger-sired boar in terms of his look, body shape and muscle. This boar is absolutely monster chested and extremely square from his blade to the ground. His back shape starts immediately behind a massive blade that sits wide and he's as square and true all the way back as you'll find. He has the patented Swagger 'look' - his head carriage is naturally high and without effort. Many Swagger barrows seem to find another gear when the drive wears on and this guy is no exception. Mayhem is a Hampshire boar that is flat out exciting to us.

Mayhem stunned us when we walked him out last winter. He looked better than he ever has and many have said he is one of the most impressive mature Hampshire boars they have seen in a long time. He is MONSTER legged and can get out and roll – AN IMPRESSIVE BEAST. Not only does he look impressive in how he handles his power, his babies are flawless in their design. MAYHEM sired 2 of the best Hampshire boars we have seen in a while in the $90K InSF Champ No Debate & the $16K Duncan Champ we purchased - Anarchy. Along with the Grand boar at Indiana & Duncan, the Rule Family showed a Mayhem barrow that was a class-winner @ InSF 4-H and went on to be Reserve Hamp @ NBS. Matt Morehouse also raised another InSF 4-H class-winning barrow. The Lackey family had a great run this summer with their Mayhem gilt who was shown to Champion or Reserve 6 times on the IJSC as well as picking up a Grand Overall title and a 4th Overall title. She ended up being the 3rd Overall Hamp Points gilt. We think many used Mayhem like we did and shied away from power. We have changed the way we are going with him and are going to take him to power as he will certainly keep the power in them and it looks like he will put incredible wheels under them. Hampshires may be the most challenging breed out there but the reason the stands at Indiana are still packed for the Hampshire show is because when you can put Hampshire boars together like the Cooks did at Indiana and Duncan and like the NAILE Champion shown by Lexi Delaney produced by Keppy’s - there is nothing more fun to watch drive across the ring. this is one of the most unique Hampshire boars we have seen. There are parts here that we think can do some SERIOUS changing in the Hampshire breed. Mark’d Man traces back to Mark Long’s famous Black Oak sow that has been as influential in the Hampshire breed for the last 5-10 years as any we know of. Another example of a great boar with Hall Of Fame female blood-lines backing him up. We hate to be redundant in describing him but -LOOK AT THAT FOREARM AND MASSIVE RIB AND HOW IT EXPLODES – (REPEAT AGAIN FOR EMPHASIS) - EXPLODES - ALL THE WAY BACK TO HIS HUGE STIFLE.. There was a pretty cool time not long ago when the Hampshire breed had a large group of very interesting and independent breeders who were constantly reaching out and trying things that they believed would make the Hampshire breed better. The night before the Indiana State Fair Hampshire show there would be huge groups getting boars out and studying and discussing them well into the morning. We think it would be an absolute blast seeing them study Mark’d Man . There are good cool-looking boars that take an awesome picture if you hit them for the absolute right nano-second and then there are BREEDING PIECES. We think Mark’d Man has some things that give him a shot to be a truly unique breeding piece in the Hampshire breed. We know we have never seen one like him!!! Mark’d Man’s first babies look flat out incredible—stout, moderate, massive and huge boned. The fact that we already had 5 Poland boars that we think combine to provide a very stout and diverse offering should give you a pretty good indication of how we feel about Full Force. Jake and Nolan told me there was a Poland boar we really needed to buy and I asked them one question - “ Do we need him to breed to our sows?� and they both said absolutely. When he rolled off the trailer - I was thrilled they pushed hard to get him. Full Force is one that will see big time use on those females in our herd that need to get blown open and keep their shape and put excellent structure under them. This is one pretty amazing Poland boar in our opinion. Boar for boar, we think Full Force can go toe-to-toe with Perfect Storm and if you have toured the stud you know we LOVE Perfect Storm. Each one is unique in a different area but we are thrilled to be able to offer both out of our stud. We know how Mr Rice feels about this one and we agree and are not going to shy away from telling everybody we can that this is one incredible Poland China boar in our opinion. Littermate to the gilts that have been doing well on the circuit for the Sandalls and sold for $4500 to Hirshfeld privately and JR Armstrong purchased the other for $1600 at the STC. The only downside to buying Perfect Storm was our concern that no matter how hard we tried he will overshadow one of the better Poland boars we have seen in a while in Titleist. We knew from his video he was impeccable in his structure. The way he reaches and grabs the ground on his back two is pretty rare in the Poland breed in our opinion. What we didn't know from the video was that he would be bringing the massive top and rib that he has. This guy can absolutely float all day and has an up-headed look-at-me presence. Don’t miss out on one of the most uniquely sound yet powerfully attractive Polands we have seen for a LONG time. Perfect Storm is our $35,000 STC Poland China boar purchase with the Frank Sandall family-from Jeff & Margaret Wingo. With the private treaty purchase of Titleist - our negative Dang Good Hog son from the Sandalls we had decided we would only be interested in a Poland boar if we found one that was the most monster boned one we had seen.
Well, we found the most monster boned and footed one we have ever seen. We have never seen front toes this wide and square on a Poland and not on very many of any breed. Then we see the set to his front and rear pasterns and they are PERFECT. Then we see he is Stress Negative. Then we see him roll down the aisle in an incredibly athletic package. You will rarely see a Poland that reaches and grabs the ground with his rear pasterns like Perfect Storm. Then we see his rib, body & mass. Then we see his awesome top and rump shape.Then we see he is 3/4 outcross to PSSS Nom Nom Nom and an outcross to the Pretty Good Hog / Dang Good Hog / Done Deal lines and it hit us all as the PERFECT STORM. He is out of HRR11 Lightning 11-3 and the Reserve Gilt @ the 2012 Indiana State Fair Open show sired by MG Dozer 2-8. Our goal is to offer the most elite genetics available in every breed and we are as confident that FERRARI fits that bill as any boar in stud. If he does not have a significant impact to help continue the improvement of the Tamworth breed we will be very surprised. We purchased Ferrari very late in the season and he is very young but it has been a blast to see visitor’s faces when we roll him out. His back legs look like a FLUFFY show steer ready for the grand drive. Very unique and interesting breeding piece. Huge topped, cool fronted, huge ribbed, and perfect Tamworth breed characteristics. Not a ton of folks got see Ferrari as he got here very late last fall. We agree with one visitor that breeds Tams who said. - “Every Tamworth female in the country ought to bred to that guy” . Our #1 priority heading into the summer was adding a great Yorkshire boar. We weren’t sure where he would pop up but we knew it would very likely take a big number to get him as the demand for Yorkshire semen is pretty stout. The number ended up being $60,000 and we think it will be money very well spent.
Garrett ended up being prime on watching the Yorkshire show for us @ WPX and there was NO doubt what boar he thought we needed. There were several really good Yorkshire options at the show and a couple that we sure would take in a heart-beat as well but when we looked thru them after the show, we all agreed that the Ricker boar was one of the more unique Yorkshires we had seen in quite some time. Very intriguing in his combination of a powerful yet extended head and neck. Massive in his top and chest and all wrapped up in a very correct structure with a hip design that is nearly perfect in our judgment. If you’re tired of Yorkshires that have a speed-bump-like ham-loin junction we aren’t sure we have seen many that we think can fix that faster than C9. Add the backing of the elite Ricker Showpigs Yorkshire herd and going back the Mighty Mack 74-1 line makes us feel really good about his predictability. It sure seems like showpigs that can bring extension along with tremendous power thru their front ends AND carry that power all the way thru are sorting to the top pretty quickly. We think CLOUD 9 combines that as well as any Yorkshire we have seen in a long, long time. We think he will be able to make a huge splash in the showpig world and produce breeding stock to influence several generations. We think CLOUD 9 can help make your dreams come true. What we are hearing so far on Cloud 9’s is that their structure is impeccable, they will start off green and then they will come liek a freight train. The only issue for Cloud 9 so far this sprng is that his babies are being grabbed up by some of the best feeders before they make it to the on-line sales. Good sign that it could be a very fun summer for Cloud 9.

SuperCell x The Grizz Bred by New Wave Genetics EN 4-1 Reg# - 531068001 We certainly have great respect and admiration for the Yorkshire breed but it is not one that we breed on a daily basis so we asked several Yorkshire breeders what they would be looking for in a Yorkshire boar to breed to their sows. The response was pretty consistent– get their pasterns up off the ground, moderate them so they don’t have to be 350 lbs to finish out, and get rid of their “jump” muscle. WELL - HERE YOU GO. He is moderate in his build, very wide and true front to rear, and boasts a very thick, expressive top that we think reads winning York showpigs.The traits that we think make him so unique for the Yorkshire breed are his expressive muscle shape, and that he has this shape without being too rigid or jumpy in his ham/loin junction. This guy also has an incredible appetite and has gotten better and better since we got him home! A very unique Yorkshire boar that we think can do many things to improve the next generation! Cool Cell has been popular since we got him but he has a near cult-like following in certain areas. Reports this Spring indicate that he is not disappointing his fan-base.
