Gary Ocock Wins Visalia Invitational The Visalia Invitational is a two day unlimited five shot match which is the last match of the year for the Visalia Benchrest shooters. This match is held in October when the conditions are good and usually produce some very nice aggregates. This year the conditions were almost perfect for the twenty four shooters that attended the match. The temperature was cool and the winds were mild and sometimes the flags did not move. On day 1, the 100 yard match was won by Gary Ocock with a .1602 aggregate. Gary also won the small group trophy with a .066 screamer. George Lozano placed second with a .1832 aggregate. Dave Woodward shot a .1894 for third place. Moving out to 200 yards Gary Ocock got serious and put together a nice .1587 aggregate to win the first place trophy. The small group trophy was won by Mel Iwatsubo shooting a .144 screamer with a bag gun. A.1807 aggregate won the second place trophy for Dennis Thornbury, Lawrence Weisdorn placed third with a .1885 agg. After winning both the 100 and 200 yard matches, it’s no surprise who won the first place trophy for the grand. Gary Ocock ended day 1 with a .1594 grand aggregate for his win and also set a new range record. George Lozano shot a .2000 to win the second place trophy, in third place was David Woodward with a .2035, fourth place was taken by Dennis Thornbury’s .2042 and in fifth place with a .2131 was Lawrence Weisdorn. On day 2, I don’t know what Gary Ocock had for breakfast but it sure helped his shooting. Gary shot four screamers in a row and a one on his fifth target for a .1088 aggregate for the first place trophy and a new range record. Imagine shooting four screamers and not winning the small group trophy. The small group trophy went to Joe Stanovich with a .067 screamer. Joe also won the second place trophy with a .1374 aggregate. Chuck Miller shot five one’s to take the third place trophy with a .1464. One of the local shooters took over the 200 yard match, Marty Childers won the first place trophy shooting a .1649 aggregate. Marty also won the small group trophy with a .192 screamer. John Verhagen took the second place trophy
with a .1984 aggregate. Jim Nicolas shot a .2102 aggregate for the third place trophy. The Day 2 Grand Aggregate first place trophy was won by Gary Ocock. Gary shot another fine aggregate a .1620 for first place. Joe Stanovich placed second with a .1982, a .2030 took third place for Chuck Miller, Francis Lee was fourth with a .2048 and fifth place was won by Marty Childers shooting a ..2054. Gary Ocock had a great weekend of shooting, winning three out of the four yardages and both Grand aggregates. Gary Ocock won the two gun first place trophy with a great two day .1607 aggregate. George Lozano won the second place trophy with a .2048 aggregate, a .2080 aggregate by Dennis Thornbury took third place, Francis Lee shot a .2141 for forth place and in fifth place with a .2157 aggregate was Joe Stanovich. There was a lot of fine shooting done during the weekend and congratulations to all the winners.
