NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS WILL BE ISSUED AFTER THE CAMP BEGINS. However, your satisfaction matters most to us and refunds or credits will be considered. Participants who are dissatisfied with a program for any reason must fill out a refund request form prior to receiving a credit so we can make the camp better in the future. Pre-registration is required for all Camps! • In-camp registrations will not be accepted. • Register early! Many camps fill before their start dates. • Camps may be cancelled if there is low enrollment. • All registrations are taken on a first come first served basis. • Mail In & Fax In receipts will be mailed. We will not call you to confirm your registration.

WAITING LISTS

Waiting lists will be established if a program is full. If a space becomes available we will contact you. You will not be charged for the camp unless you are enrolled. If you wrote a check for several classes and you are put on the wait list, the remaining balance of your check will be automatically credited to your account for future use in our programs. If you would like a refund, please contact the contact the department at 650.780.7311.

RESIDENT STATUS

Any person with a home Redwood City mailing address is considered a resident. A Redwood City P.O. Box or business address will not be taken as proof of residency. A non-resident is someone who lives in another city.

Summer 2017 Activity Guide

CANCELLATIONS: Camps cancelled by May 31 at 4:30pm will receive a refund less a $5 cancellation fee per activity, per child.

AFTER MAY 31, 2017 CANCELLATIONS: Up until 2 weeks before the start date of each camp, you may cancel and receive a refund less $25 per camp, per child. Cancellations made within the two week window will receive a department credit (less $25 per camp) which may be applied to any future Recreation Department activity.

THE MORE YOU BUY, THE MORE YOU SAVE!

Just look for the pink starburst next to the applicable camps in the Summer Camp Section. *Discounted camps include: Polliwog, Tiny Timbers, Mountaineers, Kaboom, High-5 and Whatchamacallit. Refunds on camps will be for the actual value paid, less processing fees. There will be no discounts given on pre, post or bridge care programs associated with the selected camps. Discount is on the base price of the camp prior to the addition of administrative and non-resident fees. Discount will only be applied to camps paid in full. Discount cannot be applied to payment plans.

Payment plans are available to families who need a little extra time to pay in full. All summer camps listed in this guide are eligible for deferred payment. This will allow families to reserve their child’s spot NOW, but apply payment closer to the camp start date. STRICT RULES APPLY.

PAYMENT PLAN RULES All summer camps within the guide are eligible. A non-refundable registration deposit of $25 PER CAMP is required. This will allow you to reserve your child’s spot in a camp now, but defer payment until later. Pre Care & After Care

Some of our camps include the option for After Care. If you see the sun (precare) or clock icon (after care) next to the camp description, this option is available. Registration information for Pre & After Care options is listed on PAGE 45 & 47. Some camps may offer their own after care, and that would be outlined in their camp description.

Bridge Care

Some of our camps include the option for Bridge Care. Bridge care gives the opportunity for parents to piece together an AM and PM camp of their choice with Lunch Supervision from 12-1pm by our Staff during 8 weeks of summer. Children will be walked from their morning camp option to Red Morton Community Center where they will eat lunch and play from 12-1pm. Children will then be walked to their afternoon camp choice by our staff. ONLY CAMPS WITH THE DESIGNATED BRIDGE NEXT THEM WILL QUALIFY FOR CARE. SEE PAGE 45 for registration information.

Pair up an AM & PM Camp of your Choice, and We’ll Take Care of the Rest! Bridge Care is a way for you to customize a camp experience that fits your schedule and your child’s interests. Bridge Care gives the opportunity for parents to add an additional lunch hour to their half day camp OR piece together an AM and PM camp of their choice. Children will be walked from their morning camp options to the Red Morton Community Center where they will eat lunch in an enclosed room and play yard from 12-1pm. Children will then be walked to their afternoon camp option by our staff. Bridge care is designed to offer you flexibility, convenience and provide your child with a variety of opportunities to move, grow, learn and explore specific interests.ONLY CAMPS WITH THE DESIGNATED ICON NEXT TO THEM WILL QUALIFY FOR CARE. Age 3-4yrs Campers will explore their imaginations each day with lots of fun-filled activities that center on each week’s theme. Activities may include games, story time, crafts, experiments, special guests, music, outdoor play and playground opportunities. TO INFINITY & BEYOND: Ready, set, go! Head to the races to join Lightning McQueen and other Pixar characters race to Infinity & Beyond! Campers will enter the world of Pixar animation and bring their imaginations to life. The adventure is out there and we will keep swimming until we find it!

BUZZIN’ ABOUT: Little fingers, little critters! Campers will explore the park to find insects in their natural habitats and learn about the importance of taking care of the environment where we play. We will practice being gentle and kind to our tiny friends during the Insect Discovery Lab presentation!

ANIMAL ADVENTURES: Slither, slide, crawl, and climb! Be a monkey, a tiger, a lion or sloth. Campers will learn about different animals that live at the zoo and move like their favorite zoo animals. We will also see who can make the best animal noises. It’ll be a roaring good time!

WISH UPON A STAR: Imaginations will soar as we dive into a land of make believe. With a little sprinkle of fairy dust, campers can be princesses, knights, wizards and pirates. We will make our own costume accessories, share our favorite fairytale stories and go on a hunt for treasure!

MUSICAL MAYHEM: Tap, Tap! Boom! Clap! Campers will move to the beat of their own drums. We will explore different rhythms and sounds while making our own instruments and wiggling & jiggling our bodies to the music!

OCEAN COMMOTION: Splish, splash- dive into the ocean to uncover the mysteries of the deep. Campers will embark in an adventure under the sea. We will explore animals that live in the ocean and maybe find a mermaid too. Campers will also have a chance to touch real sea creatures during the marine life presentation.

LIL’ MAD SCIENTISTS: Gak, Slime, Oobleck or Putty- Campers will have fun getting messy creating these silly concoctions. We will transform basic ingredients like water and glue into substances that fizzle and pop. Plus the return of the watermelon versus the rubber bands - Who will win? Let your camper find out!

Leaders in Training (L.I.T.) Age 13-15 Interested in gaining professional experience while working hands-on in a summer camp setting? The Leaders In Training (L.I.T.) Program gives teens the opportunity to develop important job skills and prepare for future employment through training, handson experience and evaluation. SUMMER HORSEMANSHIP CAMP

Age 6+ with Spring Down Equestrian Center (650) 851-1114 Spend an intensive and fun two week session with one of our 50 well trained school horses! Learn how to ride or improve your horsemanship skills during our program. Riders are grouped according to experience, but no experience is needed to attend our camps. Our knowledgeable instructors and helpers will teach you all about horses working in small, interactive groups to give you hands on experience with your horse. You will spend lots of time working around the horses and understanding how they think and feel. Students will ride 45 minute per day for beginner riders and 1 hour per day for more advanced riders. Coach Buck is the woman’s Varsity Coach at Woodside Priory School Peninsula Basketball Club is hosting a full week of basketball Skill development training for beginning, intermediate, advanced and elite student athletes. The camp will focus on ball handling, shooting, defensive principals, understanding angles, footwork, on court strength and conditioning and competitive game play including 1 on 1, 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 games. Student athletes that attend this camp will get a high level of instruction, and gain knowledge from some of the top trainers and coaches along the Peninsula. Golf Camp at Emerald Hills JUNIOR GOLF CAMP

Age 5-14yrs with Emerald Hills Golf Staff www.playemeraldhills.com The camp is designed for beginners and young golfers who want to learn and improve their golf skills and focus on the fundamentals of the game. Your child will learn the proper techniques for putting, chipping, full swing, as well as the rules and etiquette of golf. Emerald Hills Golf Course staff and Pro believes the best way to teach your child is through on-the-course training. That’s why we close our course to public and member golfers during the Junior Golf camp. Each day our counselors will bring your children to different areas on our course that will provide a unique on-thecourse experience that will enrich both their golfing skills and camp experience. At the end of the camp the campers will receive an Emerald Hills tee shirt, golf handouts and a certificate for passing Emerald Hills School of Golf. Golf is a challenging and lifelong sport, so young athletes need proper focus on the fundamentals of form, swinging, putting, and body positioning. To assist in this training, Skyhawks has adopted the SNAG (Starting New At Golf) system as its curriculum. Developed by PGA professionals, SNAG is specifically designed for the entry-level player; SNAG simplifies instruction so that young players can make an easy and effective transition onto the golf course. SNAG utilizes a set of equipment designed for beginning golfers, including oversized plastic club heads and “mini tennis balls” to help build confidence and to have fun.No need to bring your own clubs--all equipment is provided. At 12:30pm all the campers in this program will meet up and be asked where they would like to go for the day. They will have a choice between the swimming at our pool (certified lifeguards on duty) or be able to continue to work on their golf skills. If they choose to swim, a counselor will bring them to the pool to play until 3:00pm. If they choose to golf, an instructor will take them back onto the course to play a round. This is a great way to put what they have learned that day to the test and at the same time fix certain areas that still need some work. Swimmers and golfers will meet up at 3:15pm for a 20-minute snack time. After snacks, it will be free time where they can relax on the deck or golf in the practice area. Our popular tennis camps emphasizes stroke FUNdamentals with dynamic games and exciting drills. Each camp will have the appropriate court size and tennis balls for their age group. QUICKSTART TENNIS Age 8-10: Kids will enhance their skill development with special compression tennis balls on the “60 ft. court”. Play to learn! JUNIOR NOVICE TENNIS Age 10-14: For beginning to low intermediate players, two courts grouped by ability. Develop the essential techniques with emphasis on control, depth, and direction on the “78 ft. court” with regulation tennis balls. Lessons will also incorporate rules, etiquette, and basic doubles play. JUNIOR INTERMEDIATE TENNIS Age 10-14: For players who are consistent on slow to medium paced shots but needs to develop more spin, power, and/or variety. Basic to advanced shots, strategy and tactics will be introduced and reinforced by performance enhancing drills. BRIDGE CARE is available all week, however, this camp is only 4 days per week. Feel free to add BRIDGE CARE and an afternoon camp, but Fridays you will need to bring your chid directly to Red Morton Center for care at 12:00pm with their lunch. Our staff will take them to their next camp as usual at 1:00pm.= (except for the week of July 4th - camps run M-W-Th-Fri)
