REGISTRATION INFORMATION •

Pre-registration (3 days prior to the start date at the latest) is required for all classes! In-class registrations will not be accepted.

•

Classes may be cancelled if there is low enrollment.

•

All registrations are taken on a first come first serve basis.

•

Mail In & Fax In receipts will be mailed. We will not call you to confirm your registration.

•

A non-refundable $2 convenience fee will now be applied to all online transactions.

•

Waiting lists will be established if a program is full. If a space becomes available we will contact you. You will not be charged for the class unless you are enrolled. If you wrote a check for several classes and you are put on the waitlist, the remaining balance of your check will be automatically credited to your account for future use in our programs. If you would like a refund, please contact the department at 650.780.7311.

REFUND & CREDIT POLICY •

If a class is cancelled by the department, a full refund will be issued, less online convenience fees.

•

CLASS Cancellations made 1 week prior to the class start date will receive a refund less a $5 cancellation fee.

•

Students who wish to withdraw from a class less than one week prior to the start date will receive a department credit which may be applied to any future recreation department activity, less the $5 cancellation fee. SINGLE DAY WORKSHOPS CANNOT BE REFUNDED AT THIS TIME.

•

A $5 per class cancellation fee will be charged for processing refunds for all classes.

•

There is NO REFUND for the $2.00 convenience fee charged by ActiveNet when you register online. This fee is collected by the Active Network to offset the costs of providing the service, and is not collected by the City of Redwood City.

•

In general, no refunds or credits will be issued after the class begins.

•

Students who are dissatisfied with a program for any reason must fill out a program evaluation prior to receiving a credit so we can make the class better in the future. Credits and refunds will be evaluated on a case by case basis by the program supervisor.

•

This policy applies to our fee based recreation programs and not to: Adult sports leagues, building/facility rentals & fees, food concessions, special events, recreational (open) swimming, aerobics and fitness passes, trips and class materials fees.

RESIDENT STATUS- Any person with a home Redwood City mailing address is considered a resident. A Redwood City P.O. Box or business address will not be taken as proof of residency. A non-resident is someone who lives in another city. We have reinstated Non-resident class fees.

You must register at Red Morton Community Center. • Registration for 2014-2015 school year began on May 1st. • A $100 deposit is required to hold your child’s spot if a spot were to come available. • All Pre-K classes begin on September 3, 2014, All Lil’ Tots classes begin on September 2, 2014. Children must be toilet trained and developmentally ready to be separated from their parents. Please be prepared to bring snacks for the class 1-2 times per session.

SPANISH IMMERSION LIL’ LEARNERS PRESCHOOL

Age 3-5 Must be of age by September 1, 2014 This program is designed for children to develop social, cognitive, and physical skills in a stimulating and warm environment. Teachers implement a child-centered philosophy to create a curriculum responsive to all the children in the group. Children will be introduced to a variety of Pre-K concepts including language, math, art, science, music and movement. By creating an environment that balances teacher directed and unstructured activities, children will develop independence, confidence and a positive sense of the world around them. Children must be toilet trained and developmentally ready to be separated from their parents. Please be prepared to bring snacks for the class 1-2 times per session. Age 3-5 Must be of age by September 1, 2014 Research shows that total immersion is the best way for children to develop a long lasting foundation in the Spanish language. 90% of instruction will be in Spanish and 10% in English. The classes are designed to spark and maintain children’s interest in Spanish by engaging them in creative and enjoyable cultural activities such as dancing, singing, literature, art and games. Through immersion, children will learn the Spanish language naturally and easily as they master basic pre-school skills.

Age 1½-3 with Adult This class is designed to give children the beginning elements of dance in a fun, comfortable, and creative learning environment. The instructor will guide you through both listening and moving activities, and dances to get you both dancing around hand in hand. We will use props, sing songs, let the children explore the dance space, and have fun!

Age 2½-4½ It’s Tumble Time! Children will learn basic tumbling like, jumps, bear walks, log rolls, & leap frogs. We will do fun movement games and dances to help promote balance, rhythm, and body control. KIDS CAN SEW NEW

Age 8-16 with Teresa Garcia This after-school program teaches the basics of sewing while working on creative projects with peers. Kids will make a new, machine-sewn project each week that they can take home and show off to friends and family. First timers will start off with some great beginner projects, and more experienced students will be challenged and their skills developed. Our program includes the use of our sewing machines, basic patterns and notions (students furnish their own instructor approved fabric) and is catered to each student’s skills so that they can retake the program again and again. Age 4-7 This multi-sport program was developed to give young children ages 4 to 7 a positive first step into athletics. The essentials of flag football, baseball and soccer are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun. Our Mini-Hawk games and activities were designed to allow campers to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination and skill development at their own pace. Come join us for this interactive and informative class and learn how to take better care of yourself, your family, your loved ones and neighbors when a disaster does happen. Floods, wildfires, mudslides, earthquake, airline crash, terrorism, disasters come in all forms and severity, are unpredictable and cause disruptions to emergency services. A large scale disaster can easily overwhelm local emergency response resources, Police Officers, Firefighters and Emergency Medical Services. The CERT program will provide citizens with basic training in disaster survival and rescue skills to help reduce loss and protect property during the most critical timeframe, until emergency responders can arrive. During the C.E.R.T. course, students will receive training in emergency preparedness, fire suppression, medical operations, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, team organization and terrorism. Martial Arts TAI CHI CHUAN WHOLE BODY MOVEMENT - INTERMEDIATE

with Linda Scheer, M.S. Vocational Rehab, practicing Tai Chi since 1988 and teaching since 1995. Tai Chi Chuan is an internal martial art, promoting balance, strength, flexibility, health, and relaxation. The class covers Chi Kung warm-ups, the Tai Chi stance and principles, the short and long integrated forms and applications, and partner movement. The individual begins learning the basics and the form. Partner movement happens only when the student is comfortable with it and is approached without force. The Adult Basketball leagues are once again in “Fast Break Mode”. Games are played on Thursday nights at the Red Morton Community Center Arena, on a FULL sized College basketball court. No Middle School-sized courts here. It’s wide open in Redwood City. We will use 2 Quality Basketball Officials and we use a “Shot Clock” during our Spring –Summer Leagues. Where else can you get that level of play? This league will fill up quickly, so be sure to get your paperwork in early. Space is limited.

FREE AGENT SPORTS LISTS Are you looking to play on a Softball, Volleyball, or Basketball team, but do not have a team to play on? If so, this year we have added a new “FREE AGENT FORM”. We do not place individuals on specific teams, but will provide a place where teams can go to find additional players for their teams, should they need people. Free Agent Forms can be downloaded at : www.quickscores.com/redwoodcity You will be required to complete the entire form, including what sport you would like to play, age, level of ability, positions you play, and a current photo of you. The form will be kept on file in the Sports Commissioner’s office, and only be used as a guide for Team Managers. If you have been placed on an old Free Agent list in the past, you must complete the new form for 2014. Incomplete forms will not be processed. Another way to find a team is to go to the games directly, and ask the managers. We’ll do our best to find a team for you to play on.

SAMTRANS SENIOR MOBILITY PROGRAM A Mobility Ambassador can help you with many transportation-related issues, including planning a trip using public transit, finding a driver safety class, and learning about alternatives to driving such as community shuttles. 2014 PICNIC RESERVATIONS - YEAR ROUND

Nine of Redwood City’s beautiful parks (in blue text) have picnic areas to reserve year-round. Residents can reserve dates any time during the season, Non-Residents can reserve tables up to 3 months in advance only. The cost is only $20 per table (an extra $20 fee for nonresidents).
