FERMENTATION FUN: KIMCHI, PICKLES & SAUERKRAUT

Age 12+ with Kelly McVicker, www.mcvickerpickles.com In this class you'll learn the secrets behind lacto-fermentation as you try your hand at making spicy kimchi or tasty sauerkraut--or a hybrid of the two called kraut-chi! We'll also do a fermented pickle recipe using cucumbers or another seasonal veggie. Take home your custom creation, keep an eye on your "edible pet," and enjoy the flavor in a few weeks. In addition to your jar of tasty goodness, you'll also leave with some specific recipes and the knowledge and skills to apply lacto-fermenting techniques to just about any fruit or vegetable. Students are encouraged to bring a knife they're comfortable using, and an apron. Instructor will provide jars, but students are encouraged to bring their own for any leftovers! Supplies included.

We'll even decorate our jars with custom labels, ribbon and gift tags so they're all ready for holiday gifting! You'll leave with 2 jars of jam or jelly made in class, and recipes and resources for repeating the process at home. Bring an apron. After six decades of teaching yoga to many devoted students, Betty Coleman passed away on July 13, 2017, just two months shy of her 92nd birthday. Her generous spirit and loving commitment to her students was reflected in the family-like atmosphere of her classes. She emphasized flexibility and balance and this translated into the outside world, as we carried her lessons over into our daily lives. She was a beautiful teacher of respect for all of life and will be deeply missed by each of us.
