Are you looking for something new and exciting for the summer? Proctor Recreation Center’s Summer Fun Academy is the place to be! This academy is like no other! In addition to the great field trips every Friday, your child will experience an abundance of knowledge combining classes and recreation. A typical day includes out-of-the-box teaching in the areas of Math, Science and Reading in the morning and a combination of sports and extracurricular activities in the afternoon. Sports help children develop physical and mental skills, get exercise, have fun and learn to play as part of a team while the classes keep their brains alive and engaged for the summer.

Public Boating Class
Intro to Youth Sailing
Good Grammar Counts
This boating safety class is offered by the Illinois Valley Power Squadron. It will cover basic types of boats, terms, power systems, operator responsibilities, boat handling, equipment, and much more! This is all provided in a classroom setting and families are encouraged to participate together! Participants are welcome to take an exam at the end of the course to receive a certificate. Fee is per person or an additional $10 per family member and includes a manual and test fees. Location: Ivy Club Min/Max: 4-20 Fee-R/NR: $50/$60 Age: 12+
Children will learn the basic elements of sailing including how to launch, rig and sail 8-12’ boats. Learn about safety on water, including the “Rules of the Road,” and progress to actually sailing a watercraft. Class is intended for beginner/intermediate sailors; children must know how to swim. It is preferred to provide your own floatation device; however one would be provided if needed. In-water activity will be required, please dress appropriately. Location: Ivy Club Min/Max: 5-20 Fee-R/NR: $90/$100 Age: 8-16
Go to the head of the class when it really counts. Today’s informal, no-rules writing is fine for e-mails and tweets, but can it can actually lose you respect on the job or even cost you the job when you mess up on a resume. Learn the most common mistakes that are made today by so many, including writers of major advertising campaigns and editors of best-selling books. You will also learn to master that most confusing punctuation mark of them all-the much misused apostrophe! Location: Glen Oak Pavilion Age: 18+ Fee-R/NR: $16/$19 Min/Max: 3-20
