“My general intent, throughout all my work, is to portray the world as a flawed thing of beauty - a place that shines brightly, but has a dark side to match.” - Alexis Mackenzie

Butterflies up the Spine POVevolving Gallery & Print Studio is proud to announce a wonderful exhibition of new works by SF based artist Alexis Mackenzie. Alexis is an avid hunter of old illustrated books. Her work is created from beautiful drawings and illustrations that have been tediously, and ever so carefully, cut out of their original context and re-assembled into beautifully strange visual poems. The work in this show has been created with an amazing sense of craftsmanship. Aside from the uncommon combinations of butterfly wings and spinal cords... or wonderfully decorated women with sea shells for ears, the seamlessness with which these pieces have been assembled often leads one to wonder which parts were arranged by Alexis and which ones remain in their original context. They are crisp and precise in their execution. We are a bit biased of course, but really, this show is not to be missed. More of Alexis’ work can be seen at www.alexisanne.com. On online version of the show will be available soon. Visit the News section of POVevolving.com for more info.
