But also they treat it with a great respect and they are very gentle with them even when it comes to slaughtering. I find it quite different from the Eastern European countryside where people are often quite brutal with the animals. + Is it true that the so-called Viking spirit is personified in the sheep? As Kristine who wrote it is an Icelander, probably there is something about it. I must say that the sheep seems to be quite stubborn and very persistent. + Have you been documenting farmers’ circle of life? I went there in the autumn and that is a very intensive time for the farmers, first because of gathering the sheep from vast area and later because of slaughtering period. So when I was there, farmers were mostly busy doing those two things.

+ Che tipo di relazione esiste tra i contadini e le pecore in campagna? Credo che i contadini siano davvero dipendenti dalle pecore e la vita gira intorno a questo animale. Ma lo trattano con grande rispetto e sono molto gentili con loro, anche quando si tratta dei macelli. Trovo molte differenze rispetto alla campagna dell’Est europeo dove le persone sono spesso molto brutali con gli animali. + È vero che il cosidetto spirito Vichingo è personificato dalla pecora? Dato che Kristine che l’ha scritto è un’islandese, probabilmente c’è qualcosa di vero in questo. Da parte mia posso dire che la pecora è un animale che sembra abbastanza testardo e molto persistente. + Hai documentato la vita quotidiana dei contadini? Sono andato lì in autunno e questo è un periodo molto intenso per i contadini, in primis per il fatto di dover riunire le pecore da zone molto vaste, e poi per il periodo del macello. Quindi quando ero lì, i contadini erano per lo più impegnati nel fare queste due cose.
