Champions this month Yeshaira Robles By: Mike Bell

Our CHAMPION athlete this month is Yeshaira Robles. She burst onto the IFBB scene in 2011 after winning the Class B division at the NPC Team Universe. She has competed 4 times as a pro with 3 top 3 finishes and has become one of the most consistent competitors on the circuit. We got a chance to visit with her after her Toronto Pro show last month.

PD: How old are you and how long have you been competing? YR: I’m 31 years old and I started competing in 2010. PD: Did you play sports in high school or college? YR: Yes, I was part of the softball team in high school :) PD: I’ve never seen a softball player with your physique! What got you into the sport? YR: Before I started competing I was in the entertainment business (acting, music videos, independent films and commercials). I went to my boy friends bodybuilding show in 2007 and admired all of the ladies physiques I decided to challenge myself and jump on stage. PD: You mentioned your boyfriend. I understand you are dating IFBB Pro Marco Rivera. How did you two meet? YR: I’ve known Marco for over 18 years and we’ve been together for 12. PD: What are some of the challenges that you two have faced with both of you being at the highest level of competition, and how have you worked through them? YR: Honestly, we haven’t faced any challenges yet, we pretty much communicate with everything. PD: What are some of your recent shows, and how did you place? YR: 2012- IFBB Pittsburgh Championship 3rd Place 2012- NY Pro 3rd Place 2012- Toronto Super Pro Show 3rd Place

Champions this month Yeshaira Robles By: Mike Bell

PD: What are your plans for the rest of this year? YR: Hopefully get that Olympia invite this year and compete the rest of the fall and winter. PD: What do you find to be the most difficult part of this sport? YR: The Most difficult part for me is dieting cause I love food! Other than that I enjoy every bit of training and competing. PD: What are some of your favorite exercises in the gym? YR: I love training Legs and Shoulders. PD: Do you work with anyone for your prep? YR: Yes, my Coach is Shannon Dey and Rob Rosseti from Team Bombshell. It’s an Awesome Team to be a part of. PD: What have the judges told you need to work on in order to place a little higher? YR: After my first show this year I was told to work a little more on getting my legs and glutes tighter, but then for the last 2 shows they just said keep doing what I’m doing because I’m looking better. PD: I have to be honest I am not too familiar with the training style of professional bikini competitors. Could you give us a quick rundown of your training regimen? YR: I do 4-5 different exercises for each body part and I break each body part down to 5 days doing 1215 reps of 4 sets. There’s also a lot of super setting involved. PD: What does your offseason diet look like? What does you protein and carb consumption look like? Do you try to put on an extra pound in certain areas to fill out lagging body parts in the offseason? YR: On my off season diet I eat more protein and carbs 4-5 oz of lean protein and 3-4 oz of carbs. I try to stay within 5-7 pounds over contest weight. PD: Is there anyone you would like to thank? YR: Michael Bell from PoseDown Magazine for taking your time to interview me! My boyfriend Marco Rivera for all his support. My Coaches Shannon and Rob and my teammates and of course my Sponsors MHP, NXT Sports Nutrition, and P28. I also want to say a big thank you to all my family, friends and fans for always supporting me and pushing me to do better.

Refined Carbohydrates and Acid Reflux By Laura Johnson

I have read articles that correlate refined carbohydrates to acid reflux. This was a constant symptom that haunted me each and every day. So I changed my diet to exclude refined carbohydrates and found a decrease in my acid reflux symptoms. Some refined carbohydrates are defined as follows: A beverage that contains sugar or refined syrup is a refined carbohydrate. This includes your sugary fruit juices, beer, soft drinks and if you are adding sugar to that glass of ice tea, this would be included in that category. Other foods containing refined carbohydrates: • • • • • • • • • • • •

The Man Behind Fit Physique Written By: Ryan Ellison

Bodybuilding enthusiasts prepare yourselves, Fit Physique Radio is here and blasting the airways. Fit Physique Radio is making a muscle pumping entrance into the mainstream with guests that includes some of the largest names in bodybuilding. Creator and host Craig Soubliere brings his knowledge and passion for a sport that he has participated in and loved for the past 20 years. Craig’s hard work and dedication is evident in each weeks broadcast. Fit physique radios main focus it to appeal to a broad audience not just the typical bodybuilder. Instead, bring back the positive aspects of the sport and help give the sport more social acceptance. Even though the show is only going on 7 months now there is definitely more to come.

The Man Behind Fit Physique Understanding what makes Fit Physique radio what it is you first have to understand the man behind that animated voice. What drives him to successes and the life struggles he has endured. That make him the astonishing person that he is today. Craig’s early life was spent in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Growing up without a father figure he looked up to pro wrestlers from the WWE. His favorite being Hulk Hogan who preached take your vitamins and say your prayers. Watching these wrestlers is where Craig believes he found his love for bodybuilding. He could be seen curling jugs full of water while watching his favorite wrestlers compete. Trying to pump up his arms and make them as big as guys on the television. At the age of 15, Craig got into the gym and started lifting. Being naturally athletic he played a variety of sports such as rugby, basketball, and recreational street hockey. Even though ice hockey is a huge sport in Canada Craig didn’t have the finances that are required for it. Even though he never went to the collegiate level he always had strong apparitions of becoming a pro athlete. In 2003, after winning his first NPC competition Craig felt as if he was on top of the world. Then tragedy struck and a couple of his close friends died in a short period following that win. Instead of dealing with these recent events in a productive way Craig chose to numb the pain with the use of prescription painkillers. That only opened the door for his 7 year drug addiction lasting from 2003-2007 which he was also involve in many other substances as well. He has been clean and sober for the past 5 years, and is very open about his struggles with drug addiction on his radio show. Arms and chest are Craig’s favorite body parts, and his most genetically gifted. Maybe it has something to do with all the countless water jug curls that he maliciously preformed as a kid when watching WWE wrestling matches. He explained that his arms and chest respond well to weight training. Craig admits that in his opinion legs are his weak point, which is common with many bodybuilders. He loves to intense leg workout for that reason and thinks of each leg work out as a grueling challenge and pushes them harder and harder each workout to get the desired result. Craig’s offseason lifting split Day1 Chest Day2 Back Day3 Shoulders Day4 Arms Day5 Legs There’s usually a touch up day were Craig likes to get blood flowing into the repairing muscle tissue. While Training for a competition there’s more focus on the weaker points such as back and legs.

MA: I go 2 days on, 1 off, with shoulders every third week PD: Why do you only do shoulders every third week? MA: My shoulders are a genetically gifted part of my body. I took a whole year off of them and they are still dominant. They make my arms look alot smaller than they are, which throws my symmetry off a bit. I believe by training this way I fixed the problem for now. PD: Do you believe in high volume or a HIT style approach to straining? MA: I approach all my muscle groups differently. Some respond differently than others to specific stimuli. I tend to run high volume training sessions on all bigger muscles, and HIT on smaller. PD: Who is your favorite bodybuilder or bodybuilder that inspired you? MA: PJ Braun and Evan Centopani. PJ is my prep coach. After competing Craig has plans on taking the next two years off and not just for making improvements to his physique. Craig feels that is time for him and his wife to settle down and start a family. He also wants to invest more time into both of his current businesses Fit Physique radio and Fit Physique Training. Fit Physique Training is another one of Craig’s creations, since personal training has been such a large part of his life. He has been blessed enough to have the opportunity to help change his clients lives for the past 20 years. Fit Physique training is run out of the Body Exchange in Ormond Beach Florida. Craig also provides contest prep coaching online to several national bodybuilding competitors as well. He not only wants to train bodybuilders, but has a real passion for helping teach our youth about staying active and eating right. To help fight the obesity epidemic that is plaguing today’s youth. It’s all about changing lives and helping his clients reach their own personal physique and fitness goals. All of us at Posedown Magazine wish Craig the best of luck with his upcoming competitions; As well, as improving both of his businesses Fit Physique Radio and Fit Physique Personal Training at Craig Soulibere.com. Craig also would also like to give a shout out to his sponsors at A.G. advanced genetics.

Well! This has been a big month for me. Training has been truly amazing! For the past four weeks I have been taking the Halo for Her stack and the Osta Rx supplement from my sponsoring company Ironmaglabs. My strength has skyrocketed! One of my goals was to increase the size of my glutes this off season. My glutes were always very tight and very small, almost flat. Its grown over the years, not by much, so this off season it was my goal to grow a booty! I was squatting less than 135 last year, even in the off season, so the goal was to squat heavier with more sets and of course raising the reps. As of last week, I squatted a whopping 225 on my 4th set for 8 reps! Now this might not seem like something to rant and rave about to some people, but for me, coming from having issues with my knees and almost never free squatting, to squatting 225! I feel like I hit the lottery!!!

JILLIAN REVILLE

My trial will continue for 4 more week on the Ironmaglabs Halo for Her stack and the Osta Rx, I’m excited to see where this will take me. Maybe I’ll finally be able to have the full glutes I’ve always needed to balance out my physique. On a personal note, my boyfriend and I are moving back to our home town for a few months before we make a huge move to Cali sometime after the first of the new year. Train hard and stay consistent!

Who Is Colby Lewis? Noah Williams Who Is By: Colby Lewis? Pose Down talks to a young physique competitor about training, his secret to great abs, and his favorite post-show binge. Colby Lewis got on the physique radar fast. The 22-year-old amateur from Fort Worth, Texas, has only been competing in physique for a year. To date he has done two shows, one of which was the Europa Supershow in Dallas this past August. Lewis placed sixth, which is pretty impressive considering the size of that show and the level of competition that the Europa brings — not to mention the fact that Lewis had only competed one time previously. When he started out, Lewis initially wanted to go into bodybuilding, but he learned more about physique and eventually decided that was more appealing to him. Physique, for those of you who don’t know, is a class in bodybuilding competitions that looks for nice symmetry and flow, but without being too bulky or lean. The training and diet are a little bit different from a traditional bodybuilding routine or prep. “When I’m dieting,” Lewis says, “I prefer to keep my diet the same even when I’m going into a show. He mainly varies his carb sources from red potatoes, brown rice, etc., and his metabolism does the rest. When Lewis is approaching a competition, he doesn’t really change anything in his training routine either. “I maintain fairly heavy weight because, for me, transitioning into a higher rep range speeds up my metabolism too fast and I’ll come in too lean too soon.”

In the gym Colby likes to listen to dubstep, heavy metal, or country. He prefers to listen to country while doing cardio and to save the dubstep and heavy metal for the lifting. A nice and easygoing guy, Lewis, like everyone else, has some gym pet peeves. One is probably the most common thing that gets on people’s nerves at the gym: not re-racking weights. “Another thing that bugs me is unnecessary or really loud grunting,” which, as everyone knows, can be distracting when you’re trying to focus on your workout and some guy with complexes is yelling as loud as he can while dumbbell pressing 45s with horrible form.

Known for his abs, Lewis was nice enough to divulge his training style. He likes to go very slow on the concentric (contracting) portion of the movement, usually 1 to 3 seconds, and then really, really squeezes at the top. Most people train their abs with very high rep ranges, but Lewis likes to stick with normal rep ranges (between 8 and 14) and trains them just like any other body part. As for a post-show binge, Lewis says his favorite place to eat after dieting is Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe. “As soon as I step off that stage,” he says, “deep-fried foods are number one on my list.” He’ll usually have a few “cheat” meals for a couple of days after the show, but he has enough willpower to leave it at that. Then he’s right back on his normal diet and training and bettering himself for the next time he competes. And down the road? Lewis would like to achieve a pro card in the next one or two years. Ten years from now, he sees himself still competing, and when he gets old enough, he says he will most likely compete in the Masters class. Longterm, he plans to eventually open up his own gym.
