Sprout is certified ecohealthy by the OEC. Learn more at www.OEConline.org

Check out our Sprout teachers bios @ SproutAcademy.wordpress.com

Why is Sprout Unique? What is a Green Preschool?

Sprout Academy is a certified Eco-Healthy school by the Oregon Environmental Council. Our classroom passed a 30-point checklist that evaluated the paint on the walls, the cleaning products we use, the educational materials on the shelves, and more demonstrating that the space meets the OEC’s requirements for certification. The Sprout Academy is a safe place for your child to learn & play. In addition to the physical space being Eco-Healthy, instructors lead by example and teach students the importance of reducing, reusing, repurposing & recycling. We are outdoors as much as possible taking the children through the park to learn how everything is connected and why the environment matters to each of us! We have our own community garden plot as a second classroom in warmer weather. Children learn simple concepts of sustainability and how we can each do our part. You might find your little Sprout teaching you, too!

INCLUSION SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS Within the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) of 1990, Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) provides accommodations to individuals with disabilities/special needs, so that they may receive an equal opportunity to participate in programs offered citywide. How it Works 1. Choose the activity you would like to participate in, and then the PP&R site where the activity is being offered. 2. Register for the activity. You can do this in person at a PP&R site, or on-line at www. PortlandParks.org. When registering, let the person know that you will need accommodations in order to participate in the activity (online, check the box.) 3. Once registered, please contact Inclusion Services at 503-823-4328. If this is your first accommodation through Inclusion Services you will need to do a phone intake with a staff member. At the end of the phone intake, it will be determined whether an assistant will be needed on the first day of the activity to provide on-site support. Future assistance will be provided based on need. The inclusion staff will work with the instructor on how to support you and your individual needs. Important Details A general program may be adapted using auxiliary aids and services, but the basic structure of the program remains the same. Accommodations are made as needed, and can be flexible and creative. Participants need to register for activities that are intended for their birth age. Personal care is provided for activities in the pre-school and youth category, up through age 12. If you have questions about Inclusion Services, please call 503-823-4328 V/TTY. A minimum of 10 business days (Monday-Friday) advance notice is required. The Inclusion Services staff will do their best to accommodate each participant.

With 3 years of TKD classes at SWCC, I am thrilled with the confidence, focus, grace, discipline and dignity that the class has instilled in my daughter Rowan, age 8. They don’t just focus on TKD but also grades, and how to be a helpful, respectful part of society. Rowan’s favorite part of class is learning her new forms. ~ Cole Budlong

Portland Parks & Recreation - Fall 2013 Water Workouts Exercising in the water cushions the impact, reducing stress on the joints while supporting the muscles and promoting more efficient toning. Twelve times more resistant than air, water allows triple strength gains over land aerobics! In addition, heart rates are lower in the water, allowing for optimal fat burning and less fatigue. Check out our shallow or deep-water classes, and enjoy the benefits!

Up to 6 lap lanes will be available at designated times, call 503-823-2840 for a complete schedule of lap lanes available during operating hours. PAC (Portland Aquatic Club): Mon-Fri 4pm-5:30pm PIL: Mon-Fri 7:30pm-9:00pm (Nov. 18-Feb. 14) Jesuit: Mon-Fri 2:45pm-4pm (Nov. 18-Feb. 14) LAP SWIM ETIQUETTE: “Circle Swimming” is necessary when more than two people are in a lane. Lane lines divide lap lanes. Think of the lane as a highway, always stay on the right hand side. Like a highway lap lanes may become crowded, at these times “circle swimming” is a necessity. Lap lanes are designated according to a swimmer’s speed: slow, medium, and fast. Look at the yellow markers at the end of the pool to find your appropriate lane.
