Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world with a total of 17,508 islands. It is the fourth most populated country in the world with around 230 million inhabitants. The country is located in a strategic position, at the crossroads between two oceans, the Pacific and the Indian oceans, and bridges two continents, Asia and Australia. This strategic position has always influenced the cultural, social, political and economic life of the country. Indonesia’s economy is the largest in Southeast Asia, and is currently growing at the fastest pace in a decade. During the economic crisis in 2008-2009, its economic growth remained positive at 4,5 percent. Indonesia has extensive natural resources, including crude oil, natural gas, tin, copper, and gold. These are the pillars of Indonesia’s economic strength. The export commodities are various, ranging from textiles and textile products (TPT), forest products, electronics, rubber and rubber products, palm oil and palm products, automotive, footwear, shrimp, cocoa and coffee, processed food, jewelry, fish and fish products, handicrafts and spices, leather and leather products, medical equipment, essential oils, medicinal plants and office equipment.
