Kicking off... High school sports are heating up! Today, Wednesday, marks the first day of practice all across Washington and other fall sports will begin turning out Monday. We will preview Enumclaw and White River football in the Sept. 3 edition and other sports a week later.
Weather Skies should be partly sunny today, Wednesday, with a high temperature of 71. More clouds will move in tonight, with the overnight low dropping to 54. Thursday and Friday look much the same, but warmer weather will return, with weekend highs pushing 80 degrees.

When it comes to Enumclaw’s city streets, there are areas of unanimous agreement. For instance, certain streets are in bad shape and getting worse; also, anyone who motors around town would appreciate a smoother ride. The sticky part comes with the dollars and cents required to patch some, rebuild others and, generally, make driving a more pleasant experience. Looking for advice from Enumclaw’s citizenry, members of the local Transportation Improvement Board are reaching out – asking if the public would be willing to pony up the funds needed to mount a viable street maintenance program. And, if so, how those additional dollars

‘Not guilty’ plea in White River case By Dennis Box Editor A former assistant coordinator for the White River School District’s Community Activity Program, Vic L. Robbins, has been charged with first-degree theft by the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney Office. Robbins, 44, pleaded not guilty Aug. 12 in Pierce County Superior Court during an
arraignment hearing. He was charged July 29 and the prosecutor’s office stated in a release Robbins was released on his personal recognizance. Deputy Prosecutor Scott R. Peters wrote in the charging documents the theft, cost of the investigation and audit totaled $25,725. According to the prosecutor’s office, the case broke open in February when new CAP coordinator was hired and discovered Robbins had not
