During the Korean War, he served on the USS Bairoko (CVE-115), providing close air support for the Army and Marines. During the Vietnam War, he served aboard the USS Vega (AF-59), which carried stores, refrigerated items and equipment to ships in the fleet. Petty Officer Waller — who was first a boatswain’s mate and then an air controllman — retired from the Navy in 1965.
