t was a weekend of hot rods, iron horses, guitar licks, booming basses, pin up pageants, vintage fashion and an allout celebration of a scene rooted in ’40s, ’50s and ’60s pop culture. The sixth annual Kustom Kulture Festival filled the Clearwater Casino with rockabilly enthusiasm on May 31 and June 1. Each year the festival operates under a theme. This year was “Sinners vs. Saints,” which set the stage for fashion inspired by either the good or bad. Displays of tattoos, custom cars, retro fashion and more were all the rage. A total of 19 bands performed throughout the two-day festival, rocking a range of good ol’ rock n’ roll to outlaw country music. Dickie Gazoonie of Seattle’s Tempting Tarts Burlesque was the festivals MC, taking the stage between acts and introducing the crowd to the pin up pageant contestants. A highlight of the festival was the pin up pageant that drew 13 contestants from around the Puget Sound. Barby Godinez, aka Deladoll, of Port Townsend took home two honors. Deladoll won a medal for Miss Congeniality, and the top prize of the People’s Choice Pin Up Crown. The crown is awarded to the contestant with the most votes from festivalgoers. Other crowns were awarded to Barbarann Garrard of Seattle who took first runner up for People’s Choice, and Jezabel Vandersnatch of Bainbridge Island who took second runner up. Other honors were also given, such as an award for tattooed beauty to Miss Alley Kat, and most photogenic to Roxy Riot. Jessie Cox, aka Midnight Cherry, of Suquamish was named Promotion Queen; recognized for her efforts promoting her pin up persona at the festival.
