hen a Kitsap woman turned on her TV and checked out the local access programing, she was somewhat dismayed by what she saw. “I saw that Portland had done a show just for short films, and they played it on our BK AT (Bremerton Kitsap Access Television). And it was from Portland!” said Kitsap resident Million. “There are plenty of film makers here that do that. We don't need it from Portland. It's kind of like a turf thing.” Million, aka Christine Brown, is a local tattoo artist that is also involved in the local film scene as a director and production designer. A scene that she says is thriving, yet not widely acknowledged. “It's kind of embedded in people's heads that if you want to go into the film industry that you have to go to Hollywood, but that's totally crap,” she said as she was getting ready for a small film role in Seattle.

She notes that Olympic College has a great drama program, and fosters many students with film industry skills. It fuels a local film community in Kitsap; a community that is apt for commercial and artistic work, Million said. “People don't know,” Million said, about the scene. “I'm trying to show people the stuff we are doing here.” “I just want to point (filmmakers) out, they are doing a great job,” she added. That's why she created “Millions Movie Magic,” a new local series, airing on BK AT, that features local film makers and their short films. “It's films from the Pacific Northwest,” she said. The first episode of “Millions Movie Magic” will air at 10 p.m. on May 2 on BK AT— Comcast channel 12, and WAVE Broadband channel 3. It will rerun at 10 p.m. on May 3, 9:30 p.m. on May 5, and at noon on May 9. “It's just a chilled, relaxed 'let's just watch

some films' kind of show,” she said. The initial show was filmed in a theater at SEEfilm in Bremerton. Four short films will be featured; “Serenade,” “Empathy for the Devil,” “Russian Roulette,” and “Mac and Jack.” All by local filmmakers. Million's special guest for the show is Chad Perkins, director of the short film “Empathy for the Devil.” “Million's Movie Magic” will be a quarterly series on BK AT. Million plans to film each episode with a theme in mind. The next show, set to air in June or July, will be family friendly. And the next, airing before Halloween, will be horror themed. And before the year is out, Million will have a Christmas themed show. Million is accepting submissions for short films to feature on her show. Information about the program or how to submit a film can be found on the show's Facebook page, www. facebook.com/millionsmoviemagic.
