The Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce is looking for competitors for the seventh annual Seagull Wings Cook-off, on May 24, at the Waterfront Marina Park as part of the 26th annual Seagull Calling Festival. Both events are held in conjunction with Kitsap Harbor Festival on May 24 and 25 in Bremerton and Port Orchard. Judges will announced the winners for first, second and third place in two categories — amateurs (home cooks and grillers) and commercial (restaurants, caterers and other commercial kitchens). Judging will start at 11 a.m. and the sale of the wings to the public begins at noon for a $1 each wing. Space is limited, registration forms for amateur and commercial entries, rules and procedures are available online at www.portorchard.com or by calling the Chamber office at 360-876-3505.
Runners needed for Seagull Splat 5K run Registation is under way for the first-ever Fathoms o’ Fun Seagull Splat 5K Run is set for 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, starting at the West Bay Shopping Center on Bay Street and finishing at the Marina Park waterfront. Cost is $30 which includes a T-shirt, $25 with no shirt and $20 for extra shirt. Cost for veterans and military personnel are $25 with T-shirt and $20 without shirt. Individuals are encouraged to pre-register by May 16 to guarantee a T-shirt. Cost on race day is $30 without t-shirt. A children’s race — for ages 3-9 — is set for 1:30 p.m. Participants will receive a toy rather than t-shirt and there is a $5 entry fee. Persons can register online at www.fathomsofun.org.

Contestants will take turns on the beach ‘calling the seagulls’ to win awards by mimicking the seagull’s call and beckoning the birds with tortillas, French fries, or bread. Awards are presented for the Best Seagull Call, Most Seagulls Landed, Best Costume, and other awards. There is no cost to participate in the contest.
