Silverdale Library town hall set A special Town Hall Meeting of the Central Kitsap Community Council, will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20, to hear about Kitsap Regional Library’s progress toward a new Silverdale Library and to share the public’s vision and ideas for a new facility. The three site options that KRL has developed will be discussed. They include one in Old Town, one on the community campus and another on property next to the Silverdale United Methodist Church. There will also be a presentation on what a new Silverdale Library could look like. KRL has focused on preparing for a capital campaign to pay for the library with grants and private donations. The last step before launching that fund-raising effort is to select the site for the new library. Ideas from the meeting will be incorporated into recx 2.5” | Maximum ommendations to the Font KRL Board of Trustees. The board

is expected to decide on the location in June. The meeting will be at the CK Fire & Rescue Office, 5300 N.W. Newberry Hill Road in Silverdale.

Youth mental health training is March 24

A nationally-acclaimed Youth Mental Health First Aid course to educate adults about how to provide help to a young person experiencing a mental health challenge, mental disorder, or mental health crisis will be offered March 26 at Kitsap Mental Health Services in Bremerton. The course is taught by KMHS staff certified as instructors through the national MHFA program and Educator Continuing Education hours are available. A five-step process is used to assess a situation, select and implement appropriate interventions, and to help an individual connect with appropriate care. Food co-op to host night of comedy

Beach naturalist training offered

The Kitsap Community Food Co-op will host its Comedy Night Fundraiser from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on April 5 at the Cloverleaf Bar & Grill in Bremerton. The Cloverleaf, at 1240 Hollis St., is known for outstanding comedy shows and the evening’s featured performer for the event is Seattle comedian Kermet Apio. The fundraisng also includes an auction and auction items will be updated on the group’s Facebook Event page at www.facebook.com/ kitsapcommunityfoodcoop. WSU Kitsap Extension and UW SeaGrant will offer 2014 Beach Naturalist training on Thursday evenings March 20 through April 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. Those who want to learn more about marine life and local water issues while exploring beaches, are invited to participate. Sessions will be at the Poulsbo Marine Science Center. Cost is $65 for the six weeks. Some scholarships are available. Adults and teens are encouraged to attend. Children younger than 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants will learn about sea creatures including clams, crabs, seaweed, salmon and invertebrates. The training includes outdoor field trips to Manchester State Park, Lion’s Park, Silverdale Waterfront Park, Kingston Marina and Beach and Kitsap Memorial State Park.
