Six competing for 2014 Fathoms’ royal court

Local couple married in Idaho

Robert Gilbertson and Karla Oakley were married Jan. 17, in Nampa, Idaho. The groom is a 1977 graduate of South Kitsap High School and is employed at Miller Sheetmetal in Bremerton. The bride, a 1985 graduate of SKHS, is a realtor with John L. Scott and a licensed massage therapist. The couple is planning an outdoor ceremony and reception for family and friends on July 27 at their home in Olalla.

Six contestants competing for the 2014 Fathoms o’ Fun Royal Court debuted Jan. 26 at the Soroptimist International of Port Orchard’s annual Royal Tea at Harper Church. There are five girls and one boy competing this year for the court. They are Victoria Hall, Jenni Le Pregnall, Soriandy Sutman, Sami Newhouse, Devenn Miller and Preston Williams. Hall, 16, is attending Olympic College and her platform is drug abuse and addiction. Pregnall, 15, is a student at South Kitsap High School and child abuse is her platform. Sutman, 17, is a SKHS student and her platform is the love of running. Newhouse, also 17 and a SKHS student, will have peer and youth mentoring as her platform. Miller, another 17-year-old SKHS student, will use the Holly Ridge Center as her platform. Williams, a SKHS student, has the service of politics for teens as his platform. The 2014 Fathoms o’

Before heading the Universal Dance Association national dance team championships, the Cedar Heights Junior High School dance team took first place in dance, pom and kick in their division at a Jan. 25 competition at Hazen High School in Renton. Dancers Sarah Gaskey, Rylee Altenburg, Sydney Kendziora and Sarah Gavern finished first, second, third and fourth, respectively, in the drill down competition.
