MANAGING BROKER CERTIFIED RESIDENTIAL SPECIALIST

ENJOY THE BREAD AND BUTTER Bring a fresh loaf of bread home and watch the family’s reaction. The first slice smells so good. Family members are likely to break out the sandwich meat and dig in right away. Later, however, the bread is a little dry and stale, and no one will touch it. Planning to sell your home? The day it goes on the market, it’s like that first slice. You’ve painted, cleaned, and you’re excited. Your representative has promoted your home to their enthusiastic agents who have qualified prospects. Like the family members who rush for the first slice, there is likely to be a flurry of activity. If a purchase offer results from that early activity, be prepared to accept it. Early on, prospects are likely to be more excited and emotional, often resulting in an excellent offer. It is critical that you be prepared to accept the offer quickly. Later your home becomes “stale,” attracting less attention and lower offers. Be ready early, and you’re most likely to earn the best sale.

Our beloved father, Jack, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Aug. 29, 2013. He was born on Sept. 16, 1924 and was 88 years old. Jack was a successful car dealer in the Seattle area and couldn’t wait to retire to Lagoon Point on Whidbey Island to do what he loved best: Salmon fishing. He joined the fishing derby every year and even won third prize. He knew that elusive 50-pounder was out there somewhere. When he couldn’t fish at Lagoon Point, he travelled to Alaska and caught as much as he could there. Fishing was his passion. He was also in charge of the Lagoon Point Water District for many years and did everything from testing the water to sending out the billings. He did a great job running the water district by himself. His hobbies also included growing his own oyster beds, tending his tomatoes, flowers and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, teaching us all to fish. We will miss his sense of humor and the way he always cared about others first. He was a quiet, reserved man, but a friend for life if you were lucky enough to know him. He is survived by his three daughters: Cherie Maxwell (Riley Risbell), Debbie Maxwell, and Carol Ferguson (Dan Ferguson); and grandchildren: Brittany Boyd (Bob Boyd), Brandon Maxwell, Cameron Risbell (Jessica Risbell) and Danielle Ferguson; great-grandchildren: Emma, Lily and Jackson Boyd. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris Marie and son Gary Maxwell. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 at St. Michaels Church in Boise, with a reception following the service.
