MANCHESTER — Community groups in the area will have a chance to provide information to the public during the fourth annual Celebrate Manchester set from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Pomeroy Park on the town’s waterfront. The event is sponsored by the Manchester Community Association and Kitsap Regional Library. There will be information tables about all the Manchester community groups and associations staffed by knowledgable volunteers so the community can learn more about what the different groups do for Manchester and how individuals may join. “This is a way for community groups to say thanks to the community for the support and give everyone a chance to learn about the different groups in the Manchester area,” said Carrilu Thompson, MCA treasurer. Thompson said the event began as a suggestion from a member of the Port of Manchester Advisory Committee to host a hot dog feed and the port commissioners asked the Manchester Community Association to coordinate the event. The Kitsap Regional Library was sponsoring a music event highlighting folk singers when the two organizations joined together to host the inaugural “Celebrate Manchester” event, Thompson said. The South Kitsap Kiwanis will serve hot dogs, chips and soda during the event. There will be live music featuring Harmonica Dave, the Farragut Brass Ensemble and others. South Kitsap Fire District No. 7 will provide a fire truck for display and education. Kitsap County Commissioner Charlotte Garrido will dedicate the soon-to-be-built Stormwater Treatment Park at 3 p.m.
