Gun prompts lockdowns Mirror staff reports

Olympic View Elementary, Decatur High School and Twin Lakes Elementary were placed on lockdown Thursday morning after police activity in the general vicinity of the three schools. The lockdown was prompted when a 19-year-old male walking in the area of 2600 SW 327th Street was threatened by an 18-year-old male, who approached the victim in a vehicle and flashed a firearm. Police report there is no known relationship between the victim and the suspect. The suspect has at least one previous arrest involving a firearm, police report. Police went to the suspect’s home, but the suspect was able to leave through a backdoor in his residence and got by the police perimeter that had been set up. Police soon located and arrested the suspect.

Cops chase down suspects Mirror staff reports

Three suspects are in custody following an alleged armed robbery and police pursuit last Saturday. At 11 a.m. April 6, Federal Way police received a call about an armed robbery in the 3000 block of South 288th Street at Camelot Square. The robbery victim was hit in the head, causing a minor injury, according to police. One suspect fled on foot. When an officer located another suspect’s vehicle near South 288th Street, it is believed the suspect rammed the officers vehicle to get away. A pursuit ended on South 277th Street near SR 167. The suspect crashed

the vehicle and the officer’s vehicle ended up in a ditch. The officer was taken to St. Francis Hospital for observation. Detectives believe the three suspects could be connected to similar robberies in the area.

A woman was stabbed about 1:51 a.m. April 11. According to police, an “unwanted subjects” call escalated at the Castaway Tavern, 27101 Pacific Highway S., before police arrived, resulting in one person being stabbed. An adult woman suffered one stab wound and was transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. All three suspects were taken into custody. The relationship between the victim and suspects is still unknown at this time.

Man shoots self at Ram Mirror staff reports

At 9:07 p.m. April 5, Federal Way police were dispatched to reports of a suicidal male at The Ram restaurant, 31920 Gateway Center Blvd. A friend of the male had reported receiving text messages from him, and said he was known to carry a gun. As officers arrived, the 35-year-old male stepped outside the front doors of the business, placed a firearm to his head and discharged the weapon, according to police. Officers and rescue personnel administered aid. The male was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he was reported brain dead. Customers were kept inside until the scene cleared, and the restaurant closed for the night.

Following is a sample from the Federal Way police log: • Family gathering leaves one in serious condition: At 6:31 a.m. April 7 in the 31000 block of 28th Avenue South, it was reported that a fight had broken out at a residence during a family gathering the day before. According to the report, one of the family members was left with severe head injuries after the fight. The victim was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition. • Fighting over marijuana: At 3:15 a.m. April 4 in the 33000 block of Pacific Highway S, police responded to a call of a fight. According to the report, a woman had assaulted a man over some marijuana she had “accidentally” given him. • It’s that time of year again: At 12:10 a.m. April 5 in the 28000 block of Pacific Highway South, a woman reported that a man had pulled into a parking lot, got out of his vehicle, pulled down his pants and began masturbating while looking at her. Police were unable to track down the man. • BB guns lead to arrests: At 11:10 a.m. April 5 in the 1000 block of South 289th Street, two

individuals were arrested when they brought Airsoft BB guns onto an elementary school ground. • Shoplifting at Macy’s: At 3:09 p.m. April 5 in the 1900 block of South Commons, a woman was arrested for attempting to steal more than $2,600 of merchandise from Macy’s. • Vehicle break-in: At 10:45 a.m. April 6 in the 2400 block of SW 336th Street, unknown suspects broke into the victim’s work vehicle and stole a specialized piece of equipment valued at $3,000. • 40 oz. to freedom doesn’t quite work out: At 1:23 p.m. April 6 in the 1200 block of South 320th Street, the suspect was arrested for attempting to steal a 40 oz. bottle of Budweiser. • Paranoid man ends up arrested: At 4:25 p.m. April 6 in the 31000 block of Pacific Highway South, police were dispatched for a

welfare check on a man in a store. According to the report, when contacted by police, the man said he believed he was being followed by unknown people. A check on the man came back with an outstanding warrant from Tacoma, and the man was arrested and transported to Tacoma. • Storage unit broken into: At 10:41 a.m. April 7 in the 34000 block of Pacific Highway South, a woman reported her storage unit had been broken into and that over $2,000 in personal items had been stolen from the unit. • Random acts of jerkiness: At 9:51 p.m. April 7 in the 2500 block of Gateway Center Place, a woman reported her passenger side window had been broken out while she was watching a movie at the $2 theater. According to the report, nothing was taken from the vehicle, even though the woman had left her purse in the vehicle.
