NEWS White Rock

City ranked one of Canada’s most walkable cities Let it be known, White Rock is one of Canada’s most walkable cities. At least, that’s according to Walk Score, a Seattlebased company that ranks cities around North America. In a recent release, Walk Score named Vancouver as the most walkable large city in Canada, with a walkability score of 78. While White Rock is nowhere near being counted as a large Canadian city, the city did score an impressive 72 in walkability, higher than any other city on the large city list apart from Vancouver. Walkability scores are determined by how close various amenities are in any given community, including shops, restaurants and local services. The more errands and activities easily available by foot in relation to others in the area, the higher the walkability score. Cities ranked between 70 and 89 are considered “very walkable” by Walk Score,

whereas those at the bottom of the pack are deemed “cardependent.” Meanwhile, neighbouring Surrey received a score of 51.2 while Delta received a rating of 52. Langley came in much lower, with a score of 39. The scores will also be used by real estate agents hoping to further espouse the merits of the communities in which they are trying to sell property. “Buyers are factoring in what’s nearby in their search for properties,” said Marc Lafrance, director of product management for the Canadian Real Estate Association in a statement. “Adding Walk Score to Realtor.ca provides home buyers with valuable insight into the location of a property and has been well received by our users. Walk Score’s new Canadian city and neighbourhood rankings are a great new resource for people deciding where to live.”
