Alice Higgs named winner of challenge Carolyn Cooke

The votes are in and Alice Higgs came out the winner for the second annual Be Active Challenge hosted by the City of Surrey. She said she lost eight and a half pounds and about 11 centimetres during the month-long challenge. “I was really happy to see some of those changes,” she said.

Each team member also had a nutritional tour, learned to read food labels and tried out new foods and new recipes. “It was the holistic thing of having exercise and the nutritional component – all those changes make really big differences at the end.” Among the unexpected benefits of her participation in the challenge, Higgs said her
two daughters now tend to choose activities instead of food treats for rewards and she was surprised to see a number of friends, family and coworkers inspired to also make healthier choices and take up exercise too. “All the changes that I’ve made in the last bit are possible for anyone as long as they’re planning and being mindful. You just have to make it work in your life,” she said.

CTP Pre-press Workflow Specialist Great West Newspapers is embarking on an exciting new journey. Our newspaper production facility, set to open next year, will be the most modern of any in the world. With equipment installation about to begin its time to bring on a digital workflow specialist to lead our pre-press team. You will have excellent knowledge in all aspects of prepress as well as a good understanding of interdepartmental relationships and the industry as a whole. You must have experience with PDF workflows including Kodak Prinergy, EAE Print Image, AGFA Arkitex or their equivalents. Must have a good working knowledge of print file creation and associated best practices. Our facility operates 24/7 producing dozens of newspapers and a variety of publications and commercial work. Your ability to multi-task and cope with deadline pressure will be critical. You must possess excellent communication skills, be team-oriented, customer-focused and have a ‘can do attitude’.
