Author and biologist Glen Chilton will be at Semiahmoo Library this Saturday (Dec. 8) at 2 p.m., at 1815 152nd St. The public is invited to the event to meet Dr. Chilton, an internationally recognized ornithologist and author of The Curse of the Labrador Duck, finalist for the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour. Dr. Chilton will Dr. Glen Chilton visit the library to talk about his newest book, Attack of the Killer Rhododendrons. In this book, the author visits Ireland to witness how rhododendrons, an ornamental plant that escaped a private garden, now threaten to choke out the last of the great oak forests of the United Kingdom. Chilton was a biology professor at St. Mary’s University College in Calgary in
the first 11 years of its existence. When he retired from St. Mary’s, he was honoured with the title Professor Emeritus. Glen and his wife Lisa now live in Australia where Glen is an adjunct professor in the School of Marine and Tropical Biology, and Lisa is a professor in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, both at James Cook University. ‘Christmas Cheer’ events at libraries A number of “Christmas Cheer Storytimes” are happening at public libraries across Surrey this month. Admission is free during the events, which includes stories, songs and a visit from Santa. The first event in the series is Dec. 8 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at City Centre Library.
