Learning language at LGCA
OUR mission at Lions Gate Christian Academy is to offer opportunities for our students to engage and serve their local community and beyond.
Since 2011 students, staff and parents have had the opportunity to study German together using a combination of Rosetta Stone software and direct teaching. We are delighted to see the success of this extra-curricular program for all ages. Twelve students, a teacher and a parent will be on their way to Freiburg, Germany, in March for the first half of a German exchange trip. We will welcome our counterparts from Germany in May.
At the same time, 12 students will leave LGCA for Thailand on our third international missions trip. Students will participate in work projects that include upgrading facilities, a feeding program and tutoring children. Prior to embarking on global outreach, our students served in a local soup kitchen, participated in a North Shore cleanup, and have been involved in a variety of other projects. These experiences help our students recognize a need and contribute to society. We are excited about these opportunities to meet, understand and help others, and to continue to develop leadership skills in our students.
Fine arts part of core CEFA program THE CEFA program has a unique blend of core subjects and fine arts, enabling children to learn and grow through play.
The fine arts element of our program provides children with exciting activities including dramatic and visual arts. During the dramatic arts time, we develop creativity, imagination and teamwork in each of our
students. The dramatic play area is set up in each classroom and the children are involved in the process of creating the scenes in terms of backdrop design. They explore boarding a spaceship and walking on the moon, or visiting the North Pole to create their own igloo. The visual arts element of our program enables our students to explore colours, textures and different materials. The focus is on exploring and nurturing the child’s creativity,

and providing a new language of expression. Study in the arts is an integral part of the CEFA program as we believe it assists with the emotional and social development of each child.
