The Salvation Army Caring Place Giving Hope Today

KETTLE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Welcoming our new Pastors – Josh and Jenn Ivany “We believe in the journey of people’s lives – the whole journey.” Josh and Jenn Ivany are busy people. They have three children under the age of 4 and are the new pastors at The Salvation Army’s church in Maple Ridge - The Caring Place. Both of the Ivanys come from a long line of Salvation Army officers – Josh from Canada and Jenn from the United States. They met at The Salvation Army’s War College in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side. Jenn was there for two years, and Josh for one. It was during this time that they both claim that they “started walking out their faith”. Walking out in faith is the Ivanys’ foundation for their ministry here in Maple Ridge. Walking handin-hand with those who they serve and taking every step one day, one month or one year at a time. Jenn and Josh have a passion for building relationships and loving people. It is this that they bring to The Caring Place, where the Church accepts everyone, from all walks of life. They feel they offer love and hope, and that the simple act of getting to know people’s names makes a big difference to the individual. Each person that they serve at The Caring Place church is an individual with their own story to tell, and listening to that story helps to restore dignity in to people’s lives. The Salvation Army Caring Place Church has been in Maple Ridge since the early 1990s – it is made up of a core group of people who come to the Church for a variety of reasons – be it a personal history with The Salvation Army from war years, or a family history of being helped by The Salvation Army. Josh and Jenn strive to offer a Church that is contemporary in its worship that includes music and a lot of joy! Often their two sons, Liam and Aiden, can be seen dancing through the aisles to the music of the worship band, led by their father. The Ivanys consider the Church a free and safe place – a place where those in attendance can be themselves and “share what’s in your heart – sometimes it’s messy, but it’s real”. The Ivany’s have three kids at home – Aiden - who’s 3, Liam - who’s 2 and Sadie - who’s 3 months. Being new officers to The Salvation Army as well as to Maple Ridge, the Ivanys say that the existing Church community has been supportive and faithful to The Salvation Army. “I am continually amazed at their acceptance and love,” says Jenn. Since coming to The Caring Place, the Ivanys have been getting to know the people from the Church and meeting with other pastors in the community. If you are interested in meeting the Ivanys and seeing what The Caring Place Church has to offer, you are encouraged to come to Jam & Bread on Wednesdays at 1:30pm, where you can enjoy music, spirituality and food.
