Valentine’s Day

Thought appreciated Dear Editor, I came by the Township Fire Hall 2 in Fort Langley on Valentine’s Day morning and found this on our front doorstep. I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you for the kind words and thoughts. They are greatly appreciated. Andy Schildhorn, Fire Hall 2, Fort Langley

Decisions put due process in doubt

Dear Editor, Last time I checked, we lived in an open democracy. I always thought this to mean due process and fair, open public consultation. Our elected council, acting on our behalf, would manage issues and spend our tax dollars appropriately. Time after time in the news lately, I read about how special interest groups (i.e. universities and churches) seem to be get-

ting favoured backroom financial and land deals. • Fort Langley development pushed through, despite large community objection. • Langley Events Centre addition pushed approved without public consultation for millions of dollars. • Aldergrove pool and recreation centre project proposal, rapidly pushed aside, and shelved without any public inquiry.

Officer worker offers choice

Dear Editor, Finally we will have a choice [Office worker wants to take on Coleman, Jan. 29, Langley Advance]. The NDP is not an option, given the disastrous 10 years in power during the ’90s, bringing B.C. down to a “have not” province. No longer will we have to hold our collective noses and vote Liberal. Bring on the BC Conservatives in each of the two Langley provincial ridings. Ed Wiens, Langley

• TWU expansion on ALR land and Wall Farm development land deals also pushed through despite considerable public objection. • Members of the public removed and barred from public council sessions for stating objections. There needs to be an investigation of our council and its ties to local special interest groups. There appears to be a serious conflict of interest that is diverting projects, land deals, and large sums of taxpayer dollars to interests which do not represent Langley. D.
