sales for the Afternoon Tea Dance with Dal Richards will be donated to the Aldergrove Festival Days Society and FreeClothingBC.com. The tea dance runs 2-5 p.m. and tickets are $32. They can be obtained by calling 604-607-5607. “We are so blessed and grateful to be sharing a very special afternoon with one of my dearest friends,” she said. “I’m half his age and twice as tired! I don’t know how he does it.” He started performing professionally in 1937, when the sax player took a part-time summer gig playing with an orchestra performing at the Blue Moon Room In White Rock.
Despite his age, Richards and the Dal Richards Orchestra are still putting on more than 100 shows a year throughout the province. As if that isn’t enough, Richards is still in the studio periodically recording. And he’s still hitting the radio airwaves every Sunday night, from 9 to 10 p.m. on AM650, with his show, Dal’s Place, which has been a staple for Vancouver for more than a quarter century. “I’m still having fun leading the band and entertaining British Columbians; and I plan to keep going as long as I can,” he shared.
