Celtic concert The Chilliwack Festival Chorus announces its upcoming Christmas concerts on Dec. 8 and 9: Ancient Verses—Sacred Glow: A Celebration of the Coming of the Light evokes the chill mists of winter in haunting Celtic melodies, and the warmth of community expressed in songs of wassail and good cheer. The concert program runs the complete spectrum to get everyone in the Christmas mood, and includes ancient plainchant, medieval choral settings, First Nations melodies and hearty drinking songs. The concerts are Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 9 at 2:30 p.m. at Carman United Church at Vedder and Webb. Admission is $20, $17 for seniors and $8 for students 18 and under. Singing and snacks Chilliwack United Church holds its annual fancy tea, Christmas cake and cookie sale Dec. 8 at 1 p.m.. Call for artists The Chilliwack Cultural Centre the Chilliwack Visual Artists Association are collaborating on a project that will provide an opportunity for local artists who work on a large scale (minimum four-feet by sixfeet) to display their artwork in the lobby of the Cultural Centre. The display will rotate twice a year in January and July. Deadline for both January and July 2013 is Dec. 15. All media is acceptable but must be able to be displayed in a hanging mode either on a wall, in front of a window or from the ceiling. Free-standing pieces will not be considered. All submissions will be juried and if accepted then the artist will be expected to sign a contract. A work in progress will require a detailed description, progress sketches and an idea of the overall size and include the anticipated date for completion. Winter Landscapes The annual seasonal show assembled by Chilliwack Visual Artists Association members is on at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre Gallery from Dec. 6 to Jan. 12, 2013. CVAA members will present a holiday mood-setting exhibit based on a winter season theme that promises to be an exciting collection of artwork in a variety of media. Many items will be for sale and can be picked up by request prior to the Christmas holiday. Opening reception is Dec. 8 from noon until 2 p.m. The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday from noon until 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on show nights.
