ALBERNI VALLEY

Art and music enthusiasts will not want to miss the inaugural Alberni Art Rave. The two-day event taking place over the first weekend of August will feature a festival-like atmosphere from Third Avenue to Harbour Quay. Entertainment includes a variety of street musicians, buskers and concerts on two different stages. Artists will have their work on display and be looking forward to meeting and talking to festival-goers. An array of food vendors will have tempting cuisine to please the palate. It all takes place August 4 and 5 in Port Alberni’s Rotary Arts District. For more information, check out www.artrave.org.

Around the Arts

Port Alberni is not only a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts, but also the home of many artists, from painters and sculptors to actors and singers. The Rollin Art Centre, a 1914 home, located in the City of Port Alberni, is home to a fine arts gallery, a giftshop, classroom, office and storage facilities. Their gardens are a showpiece and provide a popular venue for weddings. In the summertime, visitors to the Valley will want to participate in the centre’s Teas on the Terrace. Rollin Art Centre is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 3061 Eighth Ave. For more information on events, visit their website www.portalberniarts.com or call 250-724-3412. In 2010, the Arrowsmith Rotary Club established a five-year

The Capitol Theatre, located on Argyle Street in the heart of town, hosts both local productions and shows from out of town. It’s a great way to spend the evening.
