he Eugene Reimer Ravens beat the Abby Middle School Huskies 16-6 in the Grade 8 Double-A semifinal Wednesday at Mouat Field. The Ravens opened the scoring with a seven-yard Dylan Manocha touchdown run. Bobby Narang ran in a crucial three-yard two-point conversion. The Ravens defence held strong in the second half, keeping the talented Abby quarterback John Madigan in check. The Ravens scored on the last play of the half when Manocha ran in on a seven-yard reverse. The Ravens held on for most of the third quarter until Abby’s Samuel Uko scampered for an impressive 60-yard TD. The Ravens then had a timely 43-yard run by Manocha. Husky’s Tanner Marquardt, Ethan Lowney and the defence held strong as they forced the Ravens to fumble on the one-yard line. The Ravens defence then answered with a safety after an Abby fumble in the endzone making the score 16-6. Manocha had 178 yards on 27 carries for two TDs, Narang ran for 49 yards on 10 carries. Josh Sahota had 10 tackles and a sack on defence for the Ravens. The Ravens now advance to the Double-A final against Stafford on Thursday at Burnaby Lakes Sports Complex at 4 p.m.

he Abbotsford Olympians swam for medals and records at the Langley Invitational Swim Meet on Nov. 17-18. The team posted a 92 per cent best time rate, had four podium performances, broke 16 club records and had seven new ‘A’ standards achieved. “All in all, a good weekend, but we expect much more as the season progresses,” said coach Jason Chugh. Alina Blakley broke the 11-12 girls club record with a 6:21.63 in the 400 freestyle. Hannah Weinkauf continued her record-breaking performances in the 13-14 girls 400 free (5:09.51), Tavleev Grewal took to the blocks in the 10 & under girls 200 free, first qualifying for finals in a best time and club record of 2:57.60 and then had a huge finals swim,

JV Panthers advance to final
he Abbotsford Panthers posted a 2116 victory over Vernon on Wednesday at Mouat Field to propel them into the Subway Bowl Double-A junior varsity final. Grayson Marquardt opened the scoring with a 64-yard run. Vernon responded with a score and Abby trailed 8-6 at halftime. The Panthers put a pair of third-quarter touchdown drives together with Marquardt adding a one-yard plunge and Phillip Cromwell also finding the endzone. Vernon scored to close the gap but it wasn’t enough. Mike Sabourin made a game-saving tackle while Marcus Dias made a tough catch to regain possession late in the game. Pranav Arya and Alex Pongracz had great defensive games for Abby. The Panthers will go for the title at 10 a.m. Saturday at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver.

Katie Charest had a personal best of 2:57.94 in the 200 free and Weinkauf was back in the 200 free, breaking the club record in a 2:22.18. On the boys side, James Lee continued his improvements in a 13-14 boys club record performance of 2:24.89 in the 200m free. His brother, Sam Lee broke the 15-17 club record 2:24.92 in the 200m freestyle. The records continued to fall as the weekend went on. Weinkauf broke the 13-14 girls club record in the 50 free with a personal best 29.03 and a second place finish.
Sophia McDonald set the club record in the girls 200 breaststroke with a fifth place finish (2:57.47). Tobyn Smith was on a roll again, breaking the 10 & under girls club record in the 100 back for a third place finish in a time of 1:27.13 and taking the silver in the 50 back. The Lee brothers were back at work in the 200 fly, breaking the 13-14 and 1517 club records in a 2:55.58 and 2:45.77 respectively. James broke the club record in the 13-14 boys 100 freestyle record in 1:04.72. Jack Weinkauf showcased his breaststroke skills, finaling in the 10 & under boys 50 & 100 breaststroke.
