1922-2012 Delta Optimist’s 90thAnniversary It only cost two bits to see the motion pictures at Ladner’s Parish Hall, according to this Optimist ad from 1931. Home Gas attempted to attract customers by extolling the virtues of its product in this 1933 ad, while an Optimist subscription campaign (yes, you once had to pay for delivery of the paper) in 1938 was intended to create some interest.

Congratulations Delta Optimist Congratulations to the Delta Optimist for reaching an incredible 90 year milestone! From your inception as “The Weekly Optimist” in 1922 to the publication you are today, the Delta Optimist is an integral community newspaper known by many as the voice of Delta.

We will always remember the invaluable contributions by Edgar Dunning and his family in the Optimist’s establishment and creating the building blocks that made the paper the “go to” source for local news that it is today.
