ith determination and will that came from somehwere
(jeep within, the Lute men's so.ccer team fought their way to 9-7-1 overall season record. With their excellent
showing, the Lutes earned fourth place in the Northwest Conference. Jonas Tanzer, sophomore goalkeeper, was voted as Northwest Conference Player of the year for men's soccer. Tanzer played every game in its entirety, made 85 saves, and finished the season with 1.05 goals against average. John Evermann, senior forward, was also selected to the All-Northwest Conference first team. The Lutes started the season off strong. After nine matches, PLU shared first place in the Northwest Conference. They finished the season with
a
number of heartbreaking losses
to tough opponents.

sing their strength and cunning, the Lute wrestlers fought their way to a great season. Coached by John Aiken, they overcame some tough losses
and continued to wrestle with spir it and determination. Senior Matt Werner (149-pound class) had a fantastic year to cap off his college wrestling year. 11scending to Glory For one month t he y ale, lived, and skied together, but the story of the ski team started way before {hat. Those tru ly dedicated to
the sport of skiing began training in the fall with
lifring exercises
to
ru n ni ng
and
increase their slrength and stamina. Then
came J-term. The team spent the weekdays l ivi n g on the slopes
and skiing. Th e y [hen spent the firsl several weekends of second semester skiing at s evera l tournaments in Oregon, Washington,
Idaho and Canada. In (he process they learned valuable lessons ,
and formed long lasting friendships.

the end of the season. Jay Chennault and Casey
Harvie combined for more than 44 runs while Brian Farman broke the school record for strikeouts and innings pitched.

Hinderlie started off the year with a classic bang, in togas ! "Greek Hinderlle" was the hall theme and the year began with an excit ing Freshman week. Hinderlie residents showed their L u te spirit all year, part i c i p ating in events like Dogp atch Oly m p i c s , Homecoming week , Powder P u H Football, and Miss L ute. There were even " H i nder-Lutes" painted in school colors at the football games . H i nderlie enjoyed hall bo n ding time with Hong Hall at the hal l retreat in Long Beach , WA. Christmas time was also exciting--the hall council surprised the residents wit h
a
brand new pool table.
Other memorable events in 1 998-99 were movie nights, St. Patty's Day twister . barbeques, and a Mardi Gras casino night. I t was one great year for th e hall.

His book based on the dissertation, Til Swedish Choral MJ Yacle--Swedish A Capella Music S illce 1945 was a lso p u bl i hed in time for t he co nvention. Sparks had a busy year with Choir of the West. A ft e r returning h ome from a Jan uary tour to Sout hern Ca li fornia and A ri zona a nd singin g their h omecom i ng concert, the choir began work on the Ensembles Concert which showcases the ind epend ence, crea tivity, ilnd humor of the choral stude n t s .
