01 The past week marked the editor's completion of his first month of service. During this month he has met most of the business men and many of the residents of the South End. It has been interesting and enjoyable work. The paper is steadily growing and the great majority of people in this district recognize the need for a good community newspaper. The Prairie Pointer of course can only be as good as the number of people that arc behind it. This is the message that i& repeated over and over again as the editor continues visiting the homes in the area as the subscription campaign moves ahead. Knocking on doors day in and day out becomes rather dreary business at times but the results (250 new subscriptions in the last three weeks) and the little humorous incidents along the way compensate for the drudgery ..

Up a Tree The old saying, "you have got me up in the air," literally came true last week. I took a subscription to the paper from a man who was at least SO feet in the air trimming an old fir tree. Enthusiastic Support A very lovely lady who lives in Midland was so happy to hear about the growth of the paper and it& increasing support that she went next door with me to be sure that I got her friends to subscribe.

H. M. & L. DEPT. OPEN MEETING

FOR FIRE HALL

The residents of certain districts in Parkland, through their Commnnity Club, have demons-trated a desire to make their section primarily Tesidcntial. They have further voiced a strong opposition to the policy of allowing undesirable construction in the area. If 65 per cent of the property owners in the prescribed district sign the petiti0ns for the etablis·hment of a residential zone, these community objectives will be accomplished. The zoning committee Df the Parkland Community Club, which includes Mrs. Jennie Palmer, Mrs. E. M. Akre, Dr. Philip E. Hauge, Mel Pedersen, E. N. Cook and Dr. 0. M. J orclahl, has made certain recommendations. The s e were unanimously approved by the club members. PROPOSED ZONING REGULATIONS A. Area The aproximate area which will be affected by the zoning regulations will be bordered on the north by Harrison street, on the south by Tule Lake Road, on the east by the Mountain Highway (beginning 200 feet west) and on the west hy Yakima avenue. The area will extend beyond Harrison street along Park avenue to withili one block of Airport Road. Gar, field street will he excluded. Existing buildings. will not be affected by the proposed zoning regulations. They will apply only to new construction.

There's no soot - no smoky flame-with electric cooking. That means extra labor saved for you, because it's easier to keep your kitchen clean. Walls II ~ don't have to be redone as often, either-an added advantage. And remember! Electric cooking is fast, safe, controlled. Economical, too, because Tacoma's low electric rates make it possible for the average family to operate an electric range for about 4c a day!
