GENERAL SKETCH OF THE ASSOCIATION
The second annual Sanger fest of the Norwegian Singers' Association of the Pacific Coast takes place in Seattle, July 30, 31 and August l, 1904. The Pacific Coast Association was first organized in Seattle, August 26, 1902. at a concert and banquet given by the Seattle Singing Society. It was decided at that time that the first Sangerfest should be given in Everett. John Norman. of Everett. was e lected the first president. A. J . Thuland, of Seattle was elected secretary. Dr. A. O. Loe, of Seattle, was elected treasurer. Rev. Carlo A. Sperati, of Tacoma, was elected leader of the united c horus. Later in the year the secretary, A. J. Thuland, resigned and Julius Sunde, of Seattle was chosen to fill the vacancy. The first Sangerfest was given in Everett, August I, 2, 3, 1903. The affair was a great success in every particular, and reflects credit on the people of Everett who carried the Sangerfest to such a successful issue. The citizens of Everett presented the Association with a beautiful silver cup, The Everett Cup, which was won at that time by the Everett Society.
At the business session of the first Sangerfes t, Seattle was chosen as the meeting place for the second fes Uval. Otto Ottesen, of Seattle, was elected president, Louis Langlow, of Tacoma, first vice-president; Albert Winge of Seattle se ond vice-president; Julius Sunde, of Seattle, corresponding secretary ; C. J. Cornelius, of Portland, financial secretary; Olaus Kjelland, of Ballard, treasurer; Rev. Carlo A. Sperati, of Tacoma, musical director; and Nels Christof, of Sealtle, marshall. On the resignation of Mr. Ottesen , Dr. A. O. Loe, of Seattle was unanimously chosen pl'esident of the Association. The Association includes at the present tim e societies from California, Oregon and Washington. It is the purpose of the organization to extend the number of socie ties in th se states, and to include others from Idaho and British Columbia as rapidly as arrangements to that effect can be made. These annual meetings of the Norsemen on this coast will do more than anything else to unite our people and to develop a proper appreCiation for the beautiful songs and music of the Northland.
