Welcome New City Council Member

Duff O’Dell

It is our pleasure to welcome the newest Council Member, Duff O’Dell, to the Grapevine City Council. Ms. O’Dell has lived in Grapevine where she raised her family since 1984. Duff said, “To say I fell in love with our town is an understatement.” She began thinking about a City Council role about 15 years ago. Her retirement from her professional career offered the perfect opportunity to dedicate her full focus to the responsibilities of being an effective Council Member. Ms. O’Dell stated, “I want to be a voice for our citizens and represent our collective best interests in all the decisions made at the Council level.” Duff began her career working at the University of Georgia for several years before going to work for Delta Air Lines in 1973. After five years as a flight attendant, she became a front-line supervisor. Upon retirement from Delta in 2005, and after 32 and a half years of service, she was the director of all 14,000+ domesticbased flight attendants. Duff, then moved on to C.K. World Service Inc. at DFW Airport where she was the vice-president

of sales and marketing from 2005-2007 and was employed with Premier Bank Texas in Grapevine from 2007 to 2012. Duff has been a business owner in Grapevine, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Women’s Division (where she has held numerous offices and served on executive boards), was named Woman of the Year in 1992 and Ambassador of the Year in 1994. She was a charter member of the Grapevine Wine Pouring Society, Grapevine Historical Society and serves on the Historical Museum fundraising committee, past president of the Bay View Club, serves on the GRACE Board of Directors and was the D.E. Box Citizen of the Year in 2010. After joining the Rotary Club in 2005, she was named Rotary Rookie of the year and then Rotarian of the year in 2007. Duff and husband Patrick have been married almost 40 years and have four grown daughters and 13 grandchildren. We are proud to welcome Duff to the Grapevine City Council. We wish her all the best in her new role.

Storm Drain Markers The City has installed Storm Drain Markers on most of the curb storm drain inlets in the City. These markers are a constant reminder that whatever enters the inlet will eventually find its way to our creeks and lakes. Each marker details where the water goes, what watershed the drain is in, and supplies a phone number to report illegal dumping. The only substance that should enter a storm drain is rain water. Remember, the storm drain system discharges directly to our local waterbodies and therefore, never reaches a water treatment plant. Whatever enters our storm drains goes straight to the environment! Please protect our water quality. Report illegal dumping to our storm system by calling 817.410.3334.

Take Control–Stop West Nile Virus

M

Mosquito season is here which means the potential for mosquito borne virus infection may be increased. The City of Grapevine will work to follow Tarrant County Public Health Department's recommendations as they relate to surveillance, information dissemination and control measures. Recommendations may include ground-based spraying of adulticide during the course of this year's efforts, if deemed necessary. Residents are urged to protect themselves and their families from possible exposure to West Nile Virus and other mosquito borne diseases by following the FOUR D's: • DRAIN all flower pots, bird baths, bottles, cans, and any other area where water remains stagnant. Even a thimble size amount of water can become a breeding ground for mosquitos. • DRESS in long sleeves and long pants to avoid being bitten. • DEET - Use an insect repellent that contains DEET prior to going outside. • DAWN and DUSK - If at all possible, avoid being outside during dawn and dusk hours. This is when mosquitoes tend to feed. How do people get West Nile Virus? People become infected when bitten by an infected mosquito. Visit the Center for Disease Control - cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/westnile for more information. You may also contact the City of Grapevine Environmental Services Division at 817.410.3334.

Wednesday & Saturday – Residential addresses ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 Thursday & Sunday – Residential addresses ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 Irrigation or watering of any lawn or landscape is still prohibited between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm at all times throughout the year.
