Arts and Culture The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Center for the Arts is comprised of a 600-seat recital-concert-theatre space and a 250-seat playhouse. Completed in 1983, the Center has become an integral part of the cultural offerings in Southwest Wisconsin throughout the year. The gazebo in the Downtown City Park is the site for summer concerts held on Thursday evenings for the enjoyment of all.

Recent events have included The Vienna Choir Boys, Riders in the Sky, Kings Singers, Momix, Ricky Skaggs, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and always include the hottest Broadway tours like Rent, Chicago and more! The Heartland Festival produces musicals each summer with a “stock” company of professional actors. The Festival shows are on a rotating repertory schedule to allow visitors to see several shows on one visit to Platteville. The CFA is your Center for the Arts all year long!

Each year in June and July, the Heartland Festival runs for 10 weeks and includes a repertory schedule of musicals and theater. During the academic school year, the Center for the Arts hosts a Performing Artists Series that has included international performers such as the Vienna Boys Choir. The Harry and Laura Nohr Gallery at the University of WisconsinPlatteville showcases high quality cultural and educational opportunities in the visual arts free of charge to students, staff and visitors. The gallery is located in the Ullsvik Center near the Center for the Arts. The Gallery’s hours are Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Call (608) 342-1298 for more information. The Rountree Gallery is located on the second floor of the Mining Museum Building at 405 E. Main Street. This gallery displays work from local artists in addition to changing exhibits. Admission is free and open Tuesday – Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Platteville has two theaters for movie buffs – the historic Avalon on Main Street, which houses a tri-plex theatre and the state-of-the-art Millennium Theater located on East Business Highway 151, which features six screens. The Wisconsin Room, at the UW-Platteville Ullsvik Center, is a genealogical Research Center for this area.
