“È un adattamento del famoso racconto di Bohumil Hrabal, geniale scrittore ceco. A proposito del quale lo stesso Hrabal ha detto: ‘Se sono venuto nel mondo è per scrivere Una solitudine troppo rumorosa.’ Molti registi noti hanno avuto prima di me i diritti per l’adattamento cinematografico, ma alla fine Hrabal ha scelto il mio. La storia di Hanta, il protagonista, ha profondamente toccato la mia anima. Hanta pressa vecchi giornali in una cantina. Scopre attraverso la carta stampata, il pensiero, la bellezza dei testi. In questo lavoro così umile trova il senso della sua vita. Mi fa pensare a molte persone, umili e originali, che riescono a trasformare il loro lavoro quotidiano in arte. Meccanici, tipografi, editori, artistilavoratori che fanno le cose con passione, ma che rischiano di scomparire, perché non sono sufficientemente produttivi. Devono abbandonare le loro piccole botteghe, al tempo stesso luoghi di incontro, schiacciati da società senz’anima che governano il mondo del profitto. Questo tema mi sembra più che mai attuale! Il film è stato girato tra il 1994 e il ‘95 a Praga, una coproduzione franco-ceca. I produttori cechi dovevano distribuire il film in Repubblica Ceca, in Slovacchia e nell’Europa dell’Est. Il produttore francese aveva i diritti internazionali. La prima per la Repubblica Ceca era in programma per il 28 marzo 1995, il giorno dell’81° compleanno di Bohumil Hrabal. Il film era ancora in forma provvisoria, il produttore francese aveva proposto di rispettare la data della proiezione della versione ceca, e poi avremmo lavorato alla versione francese. Ho accettato questa proposta avendo fiducia, a quel tempo, nel produttore francese. Purtroppo lui non ha voluto ‘finire’ il film. Aveva usato tutti i finanziamenti ottenuti per il film senza nemmeno cercare di tentare di distribuirlo. Dopo 14 anni sono riuscita, attraverso l’aiuto della Societé des Auteurs Dramatiques di Parigi, a ottenere i diritti internazionali del film. E grazie all’aiuto dei produttori cechi sono stata in grado di ricostruire una versione francese del film. E adesso sto cercando dei distributori.” (V. Caïs)

“It is an adaptation from the famous novel by Bohumil Hrabal, the Czech writer, who said: ‘If I came into the world it was to write Too Loud a Solitude’. Several well-known filmmakers obtained the rights to make a film after the novel, but finally Hrabal chose my script. I was deeply touched by Hanta, the main character. Hanta is an old man who works pressing scrap papers, through which he discovers the meaning and the beauty of the written texts. His work is outwardly humble but enables him to catch the sense of his life. It reminds me of thousands of humble and original people, as mechanics, printers, publishers, artists, workers, who work with passion. They could disappear, because they are not productive enough, abandoning their small shops, overwhelmed by ruling corporations. This theme seems to me more relevant than ever! The film was shot between 1994-95 in Prague, a French-Czech co-production. The Czech producers obtained the rights for Czech Republic, Slovakia and Eastern Europe territories, the French producer the international rights. The Czech premiere was scheduled for March 28th, 1995, the day of Bohumil Hrabal’s 81st birthday. The film was incomplete, the French producer had offered to meet the date of the projection of the Czech version, and then we could work on the French version. I agreed with this proposal at that time, trusting the French producer. Unfortunately he did not want to ‘finish’ the film. He had hit all the financial support and had not even tried to distribute the film. After 14 years, through the legal aid of the Societé des Auteurs Dramatiques in Paris, I obtained the international rights of the film. And thanks to the help of the Czech producers, I was able to reconstruct the French version of the film. And now I’m looking for distributors.” (V. Caïs)
