Nico Papatakis was born in Ethiopia in 1918 from a Greek father and an Ethiopian mother, grew up in Beyrouth and then self-exiled in France. Papatakis was one of the most spectacular personalities of the postwar Saint-Germain-des-Près. From 1946 to 1954 he run the cabaret “La Rose rouge”, that among the others launched the career of Juliette Gréco e Michel Piccoli. In 1950 he produced the only film by Jean Genet, Un chant d’amour, whose main issue regarding homosexuality represented a scandal. Eventually he made several different jobs. In 1957 he left France and moved to the United States where he met with Cassavetes, for whom he coproduced his first film Shadows. Then he tried to shoot La question by Henri Alleg’s novel, but the project was never finished. He was attracted by the Papin sisters’ news item, which he used in the film Les abysses of 1962. The film was supported by Sartre, Breton, Beauvoir, Malraux and was selected by the Cannes film festival. His second feature film, Les pâtres du désordre, which took place in Greece during the military junta, was made completely underground. In 1986 he made I Fotografia, an austere and hard film on forced emigration, which was shown in the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes. In 2000, he graduated Film directing at University of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. He wrote, edited and directed a notable series of TV documentaries about integration of Gypsy children into Serbian society and his short film Delfini su sisari (1997) was screened at festivals all over the world and was awarded by the FIPRESCI jury at the Montreal IFF. Paskaljević also wrote the novel BDSM, which deals with the absurdity of growing nationalism, and the collection of short stories Optimisti, on which his father, director Goran Paskaljević, based his award-winning film of the same name. Emanuel Parvu È nato a Bucarest nel 1979. Nel 2005 si è diplomato in recitazione all’UNATC (Università Nazionale di Teatro e Cinema) di Bucarest dove, nel 2007, ha conseguito anche un Master (corsi di regia, luci e suono). Dal 2008 sta frequentando, sempre all’UNATC, un dottorato in discipline teatrali. O familie... è il suo primo cortometraggio. Emanuel Parvu was born in Bucharest in 1979. Giampaolo Penco È nato a Trieste nel 1954, dove nel 1979 si è laureato in Lettere moderne con una tesi in storia del Cinema. In seguito si è specializzato in cinema presso l’Association Varan di Parigi, sotto la guida di Jean Rouch e Nestor Almendros. Regista televisivo dal 1983, dal 1990 è uno dei soci fondatori e responsabile artistico della Videoest di Trieste. Ha scritto, diretto e prodotto numerosi film di tipo artistico, storico, naturalistico, così come film pubblicitari, industriali e videoclip musicali (fra gli altri ha lavorato con Alice, Roberto Vecchioni, Angelo Branduardi). Il Trieste Film Festival ha presentato diversi suoi lavori, il più recente dei quali è Storia di un confine e di tante identità (20a edizione). Subsequently, he specialised in cinema at the Association Varan of Paris, under the direction of Jean Rouch and Nestor Almendros. A television director since 1983, in 1990 he was one of the founding members of Videoest in trieste, of which he has since been artistic director. He has written, directed and produced numerous ar tistic, historical and nature films, as well as adver tising and industrial commercials and music videos.
