Don Moon, No. 9, is one of the original Plainville Stadium Racers who will be at Wings and Wheels July 1.

Wings Continued from page 11 will include the Plainville Historical Society. “We’re basically there to support the guys, the racers,” said the society’s president, Nancy Eberhardt, who wants to encourage people to check out their special exhibit featuring the racers this summer. Don Moon, a winning racer from Plainville Stadium’s hey-day in the 60s, said about a dozen drivers and their vehicles are expected to attend. Fans can meet the drivers, and have their photos taken, as well as get autographs. Moon said the list of drivers includes #54 and #85 Ronny Carlson; #61, Johnny Lane and his Chevrolet Coupe; Pete Jacobs and his #32½ replica, and Don Moon, himself, with his car, the famous Pinto-body #9. In addition to Wings and Wheels, Moon said the Plainville Stadium Racers host a yearly reunion; the next meeting is at the Berlin Fairgrounds in October. The grounds of Robertson Airport will have numerous areas for children’s activities and fun with facepainting, clowns, balloons and even bouncy houses. Entertain-

ment includes live bands. Local businesses, vendors and non-profits will be onsite to showcase what they do and what they offer. Food choices and vendors are many, with the Plainville Fire Company doing the cooking and providing the cooking facilities. Town Manager Robert Lee said Wings and Wheels is a perfect way to utilize the airport. “It’s a great opportunity to come to the airport for a family event and to support two major charities in our community,” he said. Saunders said he is looking forward to Wings and Wheels as a day where people can not only learn more about the town, but to see Plainville as the great town it is, while they enjoy a fun day of great entertainment and raise money for two worthy charities. The charities that will benefit from Wings and Wheels will be Plainville’s Petit Family Foundation, and another in-town charity that Saunders feels strongly about, the Plainville Community Food Pantry.
