Academic advice from faculty “Take initiative. Don’t let someone else determine your life. Strive to be independent.” “You don’t have to do everything in your first year. There’s time.” “Try to build many dimensions of diversity into your program, every semester!” “Good decisions depend on good information. Go see your academic adviser.” “Professors are not responsible for your learning: You are.” “If your classmates seem sure of their futures while you are not, you should know that 1) they are not sure, and 2) it is not good to be too sure too soon.” “Don’t take all introductory courses in the same semester; vary the style of courses – an “intro”, a topical seminar, etc.” “Are you avoiding any academic subjects? Why? Think about the possibility of taking a course “Pass/No Credit”. Take a chance. You might discover a new interest.

BE A GOOD

1) Complete and discuss our Roommate Agreement. It can help you define expectations of one another. Â Â 2) Be honest with your roommates. Tell your roommate when you do or don't like something that is going on in the apartment. Don't let things fester, its best to deal with issues as they arise rather than waiting for them to pile up. 3) Your roommate has the right to read, study, and sleep just like you do. Try to keep noise, guests, and other distractions to a minimum. Ask first before inviting over a bunch of friends. 4) Don't borrow your roommate's stuff without asking. Chances are they will be happy to share food or lend you that really nice sweater or blouse.

ROOMMATE

5) Check with your roommates about overnight guests. Remember, it is their space too. 6) Keep it clean. If you feel like you're doing all the cleaning, suggest setting a regular schedule so everyone has some responsibility. 7) Personal space is personal space. Respect your roommate's privacy. 8) Make sure your guests know and follow the rules you and your roommates have established. 9) Don't try to be the boss of everything. Treat your roommate as an equal and be ready to compromise.

Room Draw FAQ Q: What’s the difference between single/double room draw and WES Doubles suite draw? A: WES Double SUITE draw is for groups of 4 students who wish to live in a WES double room connected to another double by a bathroom. Double room draw is for pairs of students who wish to live in a double together in Mead or WES. They will be able to choose their double room, but will not necessarily have a say in who their suitemates are.

Q: I am the Suite Draw Coordinator for my suite. Do my suitemates need to fill out anything? YES. Everyone needs to fill out their OWN housing application regardless of the draw option. You can find the housing application here: https://parking.formstack.com/forms/housingapp

Q: My friend is going abroad in the Spring but will be living in our suite in the Fall. Do I need to find someone to fill their space in the Spring? A: Yes. Suites will be judged on two criteria: whether or not they are completely full (both semesters) and the average of all suitemates room draw numbers. Suites that are not completely full typically will be automatically denied.

Q:How low of a room draw number do I need to get a single during single/double room draw? A: Numbers vary from year to year. Please call the Housing Office if you have any questions about your chances

Q: Who is eligible for a single room? A: Rising Juniors and Seniors are eligible for single rooms. Rising Sophomores are not eligible for single rooms regardless of credits recorded in the Registrar’s Office. Please note that there is an additional cost for a single room.
