The mission of the East Carolina Alumni Association is to inform, involve, and serve members of the East Carolina family throughout their lifelong relationship with the university.

T

56 percent of responses were “good” and 25 percent of responses were “excellent.”

Sent via e-mail in the spring of 2015, this 25-question Alumni Attitude Study was designed by an impartial party to help us gauge your perception of the university, your experience as a student and now as an alumnus, and what you’d like to see in the future.

We’re proud to report our progress on the actions we have taken and will take to keep alumni satisfaction high. You can read a full summary of the results on our blog The Chantey at piratealumni.wordpress.com/ 2015/05/22/2015-survey-results/.

This year’s survey was the third conducted by Performance Enhancement Group Ltd. on behalf of the alumni association since 2007. This year, we received more than 1,400 responses, an increase from 1,100 responses in 2012.

We expect improvement to continue as we keep evaluating the data and working to improve your experience as an alumnus.

o help us better fulfill our mission, we conducted a survey of alumni this year.

We are very pleased with the results, which are comparable to previous years. A key figure is the alumni satisfaction index, which averages the results of several questions to represent general satisfaction of alumni. This year’s alumni satisfaction index is 83.75 percent, up slightly from 83.38 percent in 2012. When it comes to the performance of the East Carolina Alumni Association,

The results of this survey will guide our future plans, ensuring that we provide programs, activities, and communications that meet and exceed your needs and expectations of the alumni association. Implications of the Survey There were many implications of the survey results that will help us improve in the future. One of the major responses we saw from this survey was a desire for more communication, particularly 4

targeted invitations to alumni association and university events, as well as updates after these events about how successful they were. We will also continue our efforts to reach young alumni and out-of-state alumni. We also need to increase understanding of the benefits of being an alumni association member. Another implication was that we need to increase our presence on campus by getting involved with career programs, intramurals and clubs, residence halls, community service, and honor programs. This past year, we began a partnership with ECU Career Services that will provide more career resources for alumni. The results indicate that we should also focus our communications on the value of an ECU degree and how ECU prepares graduates for their careers and lives. Alumni who took the survey told us they want to see the alumni association do more to facilitate career training, continuing education, relationships with faculty, relationships with students, and opportunities to interact with other alumni.
