T

he day you marry, you turn the page and begin a new chapter in your history together. At Weymouth Center, we know a bit about stories and a lot about history. Legend has it that the picturesque beauty and serene atmosphere of the longleaf pine forests mesmerized Pennsylvania railroad tycoon James Boyd, who was traveling through Southern Pines, NC, with his daughter, Helen. Helen Boyd was insistent that her father purchase the 1,200 acres of untouched land, and James granted her wish with the intent to preserve its beauty for others to marvel in its natural charm. The Boyds dubbed it ‘Weymouth,’ as an ode to their favorite seaside town in England. The story continues in 1921 when Boyd House was built on the estate by his grandson, author James, and his bride, Katharine. The couple chose to open the grounds to welcome esteemed literary prodigies as well as townsfolk to enjoy the property. Their southern hospitality continued when the Friends of Weymouth collaborated to purchase this legacy,

14

creating the nonprofit cultural center it is today — Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities. For over 40 years, this timeless estate has captured the hearts of couples in search of the perfect spot to write their love story with their loved ones bearing witness to this historical event in their lives. Whether you’re looking for a venue for an intimate ceremony or a scenic location to host your extensive guest list, Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities fulfills all your needs.

The Setting Is Storybook

A tour of the venue will draw out romantic inspiration when strolling through peaceful ponds, elaborate fountains and precious blooms found at the Weymouth Center gardens. The external serenity coupled with the hallowed interior of the Boyd House presents couples with infinite possibilities for exchanging heartfelt vows and unwrapping the passionate tale that lies within their hearts. Here, Your Love Story Is Written Into History

At Weymouth Center, it’s our mission to ensure that beauty meets substance with a fully equipped commercial kitchen, dressing room, veranda, great room, patios, and a variety of modern conveniences in this 26-acre historical venue. For couples in search of options, we also offer several accommodation packages to meet every need and fulfill every want. When planning your storybook wedding, consider reserving the first floor of the Boyd House and enjoy full access to the Great Room and carefully manicured lawn. Once a gathering place for literary legends Thomas Wolfe and F. Scott Fitzgerald, the Great Room can fit up to 60 people seated or 120 people standing. For those seeking outdoor elegance, the lawn is spacious enough to accommodate a large tent, housing over 200 guests, while the grounds allow for an even larger guest capacity. The newest addition to this historic venue is the recently renovated Carriage House — a private suite that allows soon-to-be newlyweds the space they need to reflect on their love story and prepare for the ceremony, whether together or separately.

Craft Your Unique Love Story

For more than a century, Weymouth has served as a hospitable haven for couples to join in matrimony as their loved ones witness the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. We aim to please and provide legendary service befitting our rich history, ensuring your wedding day is unforgettable with our venue’s timeless charm and our unparalleled attention to detail. Whether you’ve just begun daydreaming about your special day or have already embarked on the journey to “I Do,” you’ll find wedding planning inspiration by visiting weymouthcenter.org and learning more about what Bride & Groom by PineStraw

Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities has to offer. Interested in seeing this beautiful landmark for yourself? Located at 555 E. Connecticut Ave. in Southern Pines, the grounds are open daily, and you can make an appointment to see inside the Boyd House and tour the grounds with the rental coordinator. Trendy vs. Timeless – Choosing the Colors and Design for Your Wedding

Y

ou’ve set the date, told your friends and family, and now it’s time to get down to the details of planning your special day - congratulations! This means you’re ready for one of the first and most vital steps of the process: Choosing your color scheme. Colors can change the mood and emotion of an environment. When it comes to picking a wedding color scheme that feels seamless and personally authentic, you’ll want to consider all of the visual elements that make up your big day. From the styles worn by the bride, groom and wedding party, to the décor, the location and the flowers — the list goes on! It may feel overwhelming, so as you begin looking for inspiration and thinking about how you envision your celebration, consider scheduling a consultation with Hollyfield Design to help narrow down your vision. Try to remember to have some fun with this process. After all, choosing colors that set the scene for this beautiful day is one of the most creative parts of the wedding planning process.

A foundational part of your wedding will be the season during which the event takes place. In the early color planning stages, look at the time of year to help inspire you. Spring and summer weddings naturally lend themselves to bright, bold, airy or neutral color palettes. A fall wedding is the perfect time to go for a moodier color scheme or one that embraces rustic colors that reflect the changing season (rich reds, oranges, browns and ambers). A winter wedding can be the ideal opportunity for something clean and simple — like an elegant black-and-white or all-white color palette — or something that reflects the holiday season (think gold, silver, reds and deep greens). Ultimately, choosing a color combination that makes you happy is what is most important. “Choose a scheme that you will always look back on and be glad you chose,” offers Pam Butterworth, wedding coordinator and floral designer for Hollyfield Design in Southern Pines. “If lots of colors are your vibe,” explains Butterworth, “don’t be afraid to lean into that!” On the other hand, for those unsure of what direction to go in, she recommends focusing on neutrals. “If you can’t commit to a color or want to keep it classic, then neutrals are a perfect way to go.”

Decide on the Style of Your Wedding

The options are endless but the most fundamental thing is to choose the style that is uniquely yours. Since your big day is an extension of your love story, selecting a 16

type of celebration that feels authentic to you will make the experience more meaningful. Don’t follow all the trends, especially if you’re planning a wedding a year or more out. Trends change quickly and you don’t want to get caught changing with them throughout your planning process.

An Eye for Design

Elegant flower arrangements and elaborate centerpiece designs can communicate the color scheme and style of your wedding effortlessly. Hollyfield Design specializes in meeting all your floral needs, from bridal bouquets to ceremonial backdrops and beautifully crafted statement pieces. Their talented designers can help guide you through the entire process with each client’s style and budget in mind. Your wedding is made up of what feels like a million little design elements — and when they all come together seamlessly, the result will be stunning. Hollyfield Design can help you with all the details and flowers! annah Dahlem and David Symmes met at West Point in 2017. Three years later, they were engaged, and two years after that, they were married in Pinehurst, on October 8, 2022. The bride’s parents had retired to the Village, and her sister’s family is stationed at Fort Liberty, so a Moore County wedding made sense. If only all the big-day decisions had been so easy to make. Hannah organized the wedding without the help of a professional planner. Given a do-over, the bride says she might spring for a pro, so she could relax and enjoy the planning process. “I was balancing moving, changing jobs, selling a home, buying a home, and finishing my MBA,” she says, “all while planning the wedding.” Despite the distractions, the wedding went off without a hitch. Hannah walked down the aisle of the historic Village Chapel in a long-sleeve lace gown with jewelry from Mom and an aquamarine ring, her “something blue,” from Grandma. Meanwhile, David waited for his bride in a classic black tuxedo. To close out the whirlwind day, the newlyweds celebrated with guests at the Pinehurst Country Club Outlook and Veranda Room, which was decorated in the jewel tones of fall.

mily Ivey has always called Moore County home. Kyle Varner, on the other hand, moved to the area in 2018, which worked out well for the pair. Later that year, Emily and Kyle met at a Live After 5 concert in Tufts Memorial Park, Pinehurst. By December, the two were dating, and three years later, Kyle proposed to Emily in the park where they first met. A photographer captured the special moment as family members watched from nearby. Exactly one year later, on December 17, 2022, Emily and Kyle tied the knot at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, in Aberdeen. “This church is very special to me,” Emily says. “I worked at the preschool here, and as a young girl, I played in piano recitals here. I knew this church was the one for our wedding.” After the nuptials, which were briefly interrupted by a furry, four-legged wedding crasher, the Varners and their guests moved to Pinehurst’s Fair Barn for a Christmassy celebration. “Instead of a guest book, we had guests sign ornaments,” Emily says. “We cannot wait to put these on our tree.”

Bridal Party Brilliance eeping up with the entire bridal party and ensuring that everyone is color-coordinated on the big day can feel overwhelming. Rather than toggling through multiple group chats, designate a day for everyone to gather at Honeybee Bridal & Boutique in Rockingham, NC. Melissa Billingsley, the owner of Honeybee, offers a wide selection of dresses for the bride, her bridesmaids, mother, mother-in-law and even the flower girl. Not to mention tuxedo rentals that won’t break the bank but will stop your heart during the first look. The list doesn’t stop there, as Honeybee aims to satisfy clients and provides a comprehensive collection of accessories to choose from: handcrafted ornate jewelry, intricate headpieces, classic veils, beaded belts and true-to-size shoes that match the whole ensemble. With a size-inclusive inventory that caters from size 0 to size 28, limitless time to browse, and good ol’ southern hospitality, it’s likely your bridal look is waiting for you on Honeybee’s rack. If your size is not available in store, Melissa will personally order the size you need and is able to order sizes ranging from 00 to 30 to meet customer needs.

28

“I don’t care who they are, how much money they’ve got, or what they look like,” says Melissa, “but I do my best to make them the most beautiful [I] can.”

Virtual Window Shopping

Whether you’re getting married or supporting your loved one on their special day, it’s recommended to research the style of outfit in which you’ll feel your best and would like commemorated in family albums. Decision fatigue is common when surrounded by gorgeous garments and with no idea to guide your try-on haul. Consider having a couple of options in mind to help explain your tastes to your consultant and facilitate the process by focusing on your favorites. If you’re someone who struggles to envision how something might fit based on a photo, take advantage of the ‘no appointment necessary’ policy and head straight towards Honeybee Bridal & Boutique. Without the need for prior appointments, the entire wedding party can exchange reactions as everyone finds what they’re looking for. Bride & Groom by PineStraw

Affordable Elegance

Having a budget in mind when shopping for wedding day attire is typically recommended as it helps narrow down potential favorites. It also helps to factor in the cost of possible alterations, shoes and accessories that would complete the look. Melissa recommends that brides pay the initial deposit to secure their dream dress and encourages customers to pay a small sum towards the overall cost each month. Slowly chipping away at the price tag is significantly more manageable than waiting until the week before the wedding and getting struck by a bill. Don’t give up on your ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ moment; plan accordingly to ensure an unforgettable bridal experience. Honeybee’s extensive inventory is guaranteed to have more than a few options, no matter the price point.

Her team of consultants at Honeybee Bridal & Boutique are trained to suggest the perfect accessories that will surely elevate any bridal look. For a satin dress, adding a beaded belt to snatch the waist and create dimension with budget-friendly beading is a great way to add a bit of complexity to a simpler dress. Additionally, complimenting your chosen outfit with the proper footwear is incredibly important to ensure you’re ready for a long night of dancing and celebration. With Honeybee’s extensive shoe inventory, you will never be asked to sacrifice style for comfort. Step into the world of bridal party brilliance at Honeybee Bridal & Boutique, where Melissa Billingsley and her dedicated team of consultants are eager to make your wedding dreams a reality. elinda Moore and Chas Chapman are a couple of cool and laidback hair stylists, and their marriage proposal reflected that. “Hey, you wanna get married?” Chas asked Melinda sometime near the end of 2022. “Absolutely,” she replied. A short five months later, on March 3, 2023, the couple tied the knot at Soirée on South, right near Chas’s salon, Create Studio, on South Street in Aberdeen. For their big day’s theme, Melinda and Chas went without one and just included things they like. “Our wedding was about us and our love for one another, so we just played off of that and let it inspire us,” Melinda says. That meant a free-flowing evening of blue-pointed heels, sunglasses, and guests wearing whatever clothes made them feel most beautiful, so they could have a great time. “I honestly don’t think we would have changed anything,” Melinda says. “We had a small, private wedding with guests who meant a lot to us, and we had a great time celebrating.”

hanks to the modern miracle of Match.com, elementary school teacher Connie Locklear and golf course superintendent Chris Dwiggins met during the coronavirus pandemic, when the world was shut down. Fast forward two years to June 2022. It’s just after dawn in remote Arizona. Chris and Connie are taking a once-in-a-lifetime hike through swirling sandstone formations known as The Wave. There in that otherworldly place, Chris asks Connie to marry him, and she says, “Yes.” Back home in North Carolina, the Dwiggins planned an outdoor wedding at a private residence for April 22, 2023. April showers had different plans. Three days before their wedding, the weather forecast was calling for rain, so the couple switched venues. “Thankfully, 305 Trackside had availability,” Connie says. “It rained the majority of our wedding day, so the change worked out!” The couple didn’t have a theme for their day. They just wanted a cheery, colorful celebration that blended their families together into one big family of five. In execution, that meant special dances with each of the kids and pops of hot pink and fuchsia against soft greens, deep blues, and vintage furniture. “Looking back, the wedding was perfect,” Connie says, “and we wouldn’t change anything.”

P

lanning a wedding is a monumental task. For most couples, it’s the grandest event they’ll ever organize. With a myriad of moving parts, why not entrust the stress and intricate details and logistics to a seasoned professional? Talia Hair, owner of Four 26 Events, offers three levels of service for couples to consider as they embark on their wedding planning journey: Event Management, Partial Planning, and Full-Service Planning and Design. At a minimum, offerings include virtual and in-person meetings, a custom event weekend timeline, final check-in call, ceremony rehearsal directing, and wedding day management, which means enjoying the wedding of your dreams has never been easier. Every wedding is different, so Talia prefers to begin with a consultation in which she’ll discuss her prospective planning pain point, vision and anticipated budget. Then, she prepares a proposal that comprehensively explains the inclusions that couples need to consider before moving forward. Upon hiring, clients book an onboarding call where Talia shows the couple what tools they have access to, and that she’ll be using to plan their event. She also walks through the client welcome guide, so they know what to expect over the timeline of their relationship with Four 26 Events. An

40

important component of her client experience is recurrent client meetings. “These meetings allow us to keep communication open with our clients and build a trusting relationship. There are about 3 to 5 months where you’re hardcore planning, and then it slows down once everything has been booked. Then, 2 to 3 months before the actual wedding, we must begin finalizing logistical details,” explains Talia. “During the slower time, I still want my couples to be excited for what’s to come and know I’m handling everything and a resource for them.” Building strong relationships with clients is a critical component, as couples are often influenced by opposing opinions regarding wedding decor, catering, music choices, venues and so much more. Balancing a diverse variety of opinions, keeping everyone happy, and executing a seamless event is where a professional’s expertise comes in. “I’m not just a wedding planner, I have to be a mediator. At the end of the day, the wedding needs to be cohesive, and I have to make sure everyone’s wishes come to fruition,” offers Talia. At minimum, couples typically work with at least 10 vendors to execute their dream wedding, and that can range from the catering to the DJ, to those in charge of the smallest of details like their printed goods. There’s so Bride & Groom by PineStraw

much more that has to be done and that needs numbers and finalization, so if you’re able to financially put it off on someone else or you really want guidance the whole way through, Talia Hair is your advocate and ready to ensure everything goes according to plan. “The piece that some people forget about planning a wedding is the emotional aspect of it all. You’re still having to work and go about your normal life, and still put on this wedding,” says Talia. “Having a wedding planner that you connect with personally can help take some of that stress away because you can turn to them and get an unbiased opinion.” While some couples may opt to “Do-It-Yourself” and coordinate everything themselves, it’s important to remember that someone needs to set up and take down the wedding the day-of. On such a special occasion, allow your guests and loved ones the opportunity to truly sit down, relax, and enjoy this unforgettable day. Not to mention, you shouldn’t need to worry about vendors or if the cake has been delivered while you’re getting hair and makeup done. “Who is going to be the coordinator who handles all the production so you can spend your time mingling and catching up with your loved ones you haven’t seen in a while?” asks Talia. “You should be able to actually enjoy your wedding and sit down and eat and truly soak in that you are finally married, not worried about what time is food being served and if Bride & Groom by PineStraw

the DJ plays the right song? That’s what I’m there to worry about.” No matter if you’re a super Type-A bride that needs detailed responses, or if you’re a “go with the flow” kind of girl that only has a budget in mind, Talia has years of experience planning and executing glamorous and intimate weddings. Enjoy your wedding night with the love of your life, surrounded by laughter, and let Talia and her team worry about the logistics. It’ll be the best gift you ever get yourself. harlotte Owen and Daniel Tucker have been crossing paths almost since day one. They were both born at Moore Regional Hospital and attended elementary school through college in the Sandhills. Somewhere in between, and without knowing it, the two attended many of the same Sunday morning church services and Wednesday night youth groups. Despite their overlapping worlds, Charlotte and Daniel didn’t meet until one random Sunday in 2018. “I had seen him out the night before, and when I walked into Bell Tree and saw him sitting by himself, I invited him to sit with me,” Charlotte says. “We have been together since.” Four years into dating, Daniel planned dinner at The Sly Fox Pub, where the couple shared their first date, and then surprised Charlotte with a walk through Weymouth Woods, where they shared their first kiss. “We walked around, reminiscing about the last time we were there, and how I was the one who made the first move,” Charlotte says. For the proposal, it was Daniel’s turn to take charge. “Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him,” she says. Five years after officially meeting, Charlotte and Daniel got married in a sunshiny ceremony outside the Old Church of Pinehurst before moving indoors for a reception finished with soft pink, baby’s breath, and leafy greens.

laire Councill and Adam Ellison met at a friend’s housewarming party in San Francisco, where they live. The two began dating and after the pandemic squashed several proposal plans, Adam asked Claire to marry him on a snowy December morning in Lake Tahoe, California. They spent the rest of the day skiing and celebrating with friends. Even though the Ellisons live on the other coast, Claire knew she wanted to get married in Pinehurst. Her family has been vacationing to the dreamy little village for more than 50 years, and she learned to play golf there as a kid. With that decision out of the way, the Ellisons chose the Country Club of North Carolina for their ceremony and reception venue. They wanted to get married outside on the beautiful terrace before dancing the night away in the ballroom. Thanks to an old Southern superstition to keep bad weather at bay, Claire says, they were able to. “We were expecting cold rain on our wedding day, even two or three days before, but burying a bottle of bourbon worked for us,” she says. “We had a spectacularly beautiful spring day and celebrated by passing the bottle around the whole wedding party.”

Maximizing Style and Minimizing Stress

S

etting the stage for the biggest production of your life can be stress-free, and the secret to achieving this great feat is simplifying wedding decor planning. By entrusting your vision to Martha and Brian Sanabanda, the owners of Martha My Dear, you can ensure a seamless and memorable experience on the big day. As a specialty rental company in Wilmington, NC, Martha My Dear has been providing rental packages since 2014 and hopes that their extensive collection of furniture can help bring to life your dream of marrying the love of your life. Martha My Dear is committed to partnering with wedding planners and day-of coordinators, collaborating with your chosen team to bring your vision to life and leave your guests awestruck. With nearly a decade of experience, Martha has meticulously laid out a comprehensive list of factors to consider when planning your wedding furniture displays. With these expert tips, you’ll be able to proactively plan for comfort, functionality and versatility without sacrificing style.

Setting Up and Cleaning Up

Depending on your venue, you may have the evening before the reception to organize tables, chairs, and the overall layout of your wedding. However, it’ll be extremely nerve-wracking to ask others to help set up your wedding day furniture the morning of your wedding, especially while you try to focus on getting ready. Not to mention, furniture displays have to be hauled away by the end of your venue reservation and that’s the last thing you want to concentrate on when heading towards your honeymoon. For couples hosting their wedding, the answer is obvious: Martha My Dear. After choosing the rental package that will complete your venue aesthetic, they’ll provide installation and retrieval services at an additional rate to ease your worries. Stay proactive and plan accordingly so that your wedding day vibes are always positive and problem-free.

Choosing an Aesthetic

Tired of explaining your vision to countless vendors in the hopes they can visualize what you’ve been dreaming of for months? Us too. Rather than exhausting yourself, curate a Pinterest board with your

ideal aesthetic, and Martha will work with you until a final look is created. Browse Martha My Dear’s extensive inventory, including accent tables, bars, dinnerware, farm tables, guest seating, kids’ bounce houses and furniture, large details and architecture, signage, lighting and accessories, lounge packages, lounge seating, pillows and throw blankets, shelves and walls, and don’t forget the rugs. With so many options to choose from, it’s guaranteed you’ll find a rental package that elevates your wedding decor and communicates your individual style. If you have no clue where to begin, take some bridal style quizzes and narrow down whether you’re boho, modern, farmhouse, rustic, romantic, classic or alternative.

Navigating the Love Story

Signage and directories purposefully placed throughout the venue can help guide guests and prevent an endless slew of questions about the order of events or where to find something. Customized signs that warmly welcome your guests on your special day, Bride & Groom by PineStraw

communicate the guest seating chart to help your loved ones find the right table and individualized table signs are crucial for ensuring a smooth reception. Crafty couples may opt to DIY these details, but Martha My Dear is ready to prevent future frustration when the vinyls don’t stick, by taking this chore off your hands. With their signs and vinyl lettering service, you’ll have everything you need to help the night run effortlessly. Martha and Brian Sanabanda are the brains and brawn behind Martha My Dear. They’ve considered everything soon-to-be newlyweds will need for the big day and have covered all bases to ensure their clients enjoy an attractive, comfortable and stress-free wedding. Their dedicated bridal consultants are eager to guide you through the journey to finding ‘The One’ dress that makes you feel confident, empowered and beautiful as you walk down the aisle to the love of your life. These expert tips will help get you started on your path to bridal bliss.

Bridal Looks to Adore and Embrace

• The glamorous bride: Today’s brides want a one-of-a-kind wedding day look that lets them express their personal style. That’s why Shiloh Court loves pairing the latest bridal accessories with the hottest gowns from Stella York, Martina Liana, and Madi Lane. They have a wide selection of belts, hairpieces and jewelry for brides who want to add a little something extra to their “I do” aesthetic. • The minimalist bride: Is there a bridal accessory more classic (and chic) than a veil? We think not! Veils add a timeless touch to any gown. Shiloh Court loves how a Cathedral veil elevates the romantic vibe of their simple silhouette gowns. It really allows the bride to shine! • The fashion-forward bride: Brides who aren’t afraid to make a Bride & Groom by PineStraw

head-turning statement will swoon over the bridal pairing of a dress and overskirt! A dramatic overskirt is the epitome of next-level bridal fashion. Overskirts can be worn for a more formal appeal at the ceremony and then removed before hitting the dance floor at the reception — giving brides two looks in one!

Essential Preparations for Dress Shopping Delight • Set a budget: Knowing your budget will help you narrow down your options and prevent you from falling in love with a dress that’s out of your price range. Remember, you can find beautiful dresses at every price point! • Research styles: Take some time to research wedding dress styles and silhouettes. This can save you time and make the shopping experience more enjoyable. Pinterest boards and bridal magazines can be your best friends in this regard! • Shop early: Ideally, start shopping for your wedding dress about 9-12 months before your big day. Wedding dresses often require alterations, and you’ll want to leave plenty of time for fittings and any unexpected delays.

Bride & Groom by PineStraw

• Make an Appointment with Shiloh Court Bridal: Shiloh Court Bridal requires appointments, so call ahead or book online at shilohcourtbridal.com to schedule your visit. This way, you’ll receive personalized attention from a bridal stylist and have a dedicated space to try on dresses! • Be Open-Minded: While it’s great to have some ideas in mind, be open to trying on different styles. The dress you fall in love with might be completely different from what you initially envisioned! • Trust Your Instincts: When you find the dress that makes you feel beautiful, confident and radiant, trust your instincts. The most important thing is how the dress makes you feel, and if it speaks to your heart, it’s the one for you! • Enjoy yourself and have fun!: This journey is about cherishing the process as much as finding the perfect gown. At Shiloh Court Bridal, their team of talented consultants are eager to make your experience unforgettable. They can’t wait to join you in celebrating every step towards finding the dress of your dreams! The significance of personalized attention, a curated collection of wedding dresses and trusted professionals cannot be overstated. irginia natives Hallie Coburn and Daniel Corliss met in high school physics class but waited until sophomore year of college to start dating. Years later, in 2021, the couple stopped at an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway outside of Charlottesville. “I thought it was silly that we were sitting in the car for 30 minutes instead of getting out and looking at the amazing view right away,” Hallie says. As it turned out, Daniel was waiting for the perfect moment. “He got on one knee just as the sun went down with the mountain behind us,” she says, adding, “It was well worth the wait!” Though the couple is from Virginia, they lived in Moore County for five years and got married in Southern Pines before moving back to their home state. Hallie and Daniel exchanged “I dos” in a garden ceremony at the Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities on a blue-sky spring day in May 2023. After an elegant reception on site, the newlyweds made their great escape. “Our getaway vehicle was our 1988 BMW 750iL, which Daniel found in poor condition in 2020, and spent the last three years repairing and restoring in preparation for the wedding,” Hallie says.

ristiana Wade and Teno Benitez grew up in Moore County and met in high school theater class in 2015. Six years later, Teno asked Kristiana to marry him while touring the sprawling grounds of the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. “It was just the two of us surrounded by the beautiful garden,” Kristiana says. Gardens, flowers, and the outdoors are a throughline in Kristiana and Teno’s love story. Besides their engagement on the Biltmore’s grounds, the couple designed their entire wedding day around the first bouquet Teno gave to his bride. Hollyfield Design took that inspiration and ran with it, creating oversized arrangements of ivory, soft pink, and purple blooms, accented by trailing greenery. The floral displays, plus the lavender and gray color scheme, gave the June nuptials a fairy-tale vibe. “Our ceremony was held at the Pinehurst Arboretum,” Kristiana says. “We chose this location because we both wanted a beautiful outdoor ceremony.” The bride and groom exchanged vows under a flower arch before heading to the Fair Barn for dinner catered by Elliotts on Linden and a storybook evening with family and friends.

arah met Michael Wallace Memorial Day, 2019. While vacationing to their respective family beach homes on the Jersey Shore, the two met at a local watering hole known for its matchmaking. Mike saw Sarah from across the bar, introduced himself, and before the night was over, the two had a date set up back in New York City, where they both lived. A few years later, Mike popped the question oceanside. After Sarah said “yes,” he walked his future bride back to her family beach house where all their favorite people were waiting to celebrate. “Mike thought out every detail,” Sarah says, “professional photographer, oyster bar, music, food, drinks and even surprise fireworks at the end of the night.” When it came time for wedding planning, the Wallaces chose to get married in Moore County, where the bride’s parents live. As for the venue, Sarah and Mike exchanged vows at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, on September 23, which is also the bride’s parents’ wedding anniversary and the mother of the groom’s birthday.

With an experienced makeup artist and hair stylist on her team, boasting over 18 years of experience working with MAC and Paul Mitchell, she hopes brides will feel confident when selecting the style of makeup that most reflects their personality and learn some tips for their honeymoon glam. One piece of advice Karra offers brides-to-be is to take into consideration the location and the weather when deciding on a hairstyle or makeup look. “If you’re getting married on a humid day, loose curls may not be the best option. Your face shape and your dress have a lot to do with what style to go with,” shares Karra. “My beauty stylist’s recommendations are that if you have a set hairstyle you want to wear your hair similar when you go dress shopping. All in all, choosing a style that feels comfortable and like oneself as opposed to trying something totally opposite of your day-to-day.” The shop can also be rented out for dress-up parties, featuring a champagne/mimosa bar to toast finding the perfect dress and a charcuterie layout that your bridal party will adore. This is perfect for bachelorette or engagement parties, where your entire bridal party can sip some bubbly and snack while trying on bridesmaid dresses, all while scouring the racks for your signature dress. “To be honest, my favorite trend is the color palette of bridesmaid dresses versus all the same color. I love the intermix of solids and floral patterns for bridesmaids,” offers Karra. She firmly believes that the key to a flawless wedding day lies in creating a well-organized timeline and bringing together your cherished loved ones for a delightful morning of preparation, elevated to perfection with brunch. “Having brunch set up at the location where you’re getting ready is the best. Everyone gets to eat, drink coffee and get their hair and makeup done together. This allows you to have some special time with the people close to you, and make sure all the last minute final details are in line.” At Hazel + Grace, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase matching shoes, shapewear, adhesive and strapless bras to truly envision your look coming together. If wraps, furs, shawls or purses are required to make your vision

come to life, you can also rent the accessory you need to complete the vibe. “I’m a natural makeup person, but others may love the full glam look. I do feel that you can never go wrong with a hair accessory,” says Karra. Your bridesmaids, wedding guests, and even the mother of the bride or groom can find what they’re looking for at Hazel + Grace with their formal wear rentals. Wedding dress consignment is a unique service offered by Karra that allows customers the opportunity to sell a wedding dress in good condition and receive a cash payout, which can be used towards another purchase. As a jack of all trades, Karra also offers equipment rentals to clients looking for a 360 degree photo booth, gold balloon arch with balloon pump, and a cambro for hot beverages. “I truly believe the biggest hurdle is the cost of making your vision a reality. This is why I wanted to start a rental company,” says Karra. “Being able to reach your goal of that perfect look/style without having to break the bank to get there.” Bride & Groom by PineStraw

Farewell with Flair: Trendy Alternatives for Your Send-Off

Y

ou’ve cut the cake, danced the night away, and married the love of your life. All that’s left is for your loved ones to gather for an epic send-off as you head towards your first romantic night as newlyweds. As you daydream about arranging both sides of your new families and signaling the photographer, it’s important to consider the venue’s guidelines regarding items that can be used for your heartwarming send-off. Sparklers, for example, are a fire hazard. Traditional confetti and rose petals are messy and difficult to clean up. Then there’s rice, bird seed, fresh herbs and more that are not allowed because they promote growth within pavers, patio and grassy areas at different venues. 76

The Fair Barn — one of the most popular wedding venues in the Sandhills — believes your time and energy is better spent on tasting cake samples and has developed a detailed list of venue-friendly send-off ideas for an unforgettable farewell with flair. An added benefit to using these options is that they can double as a fun takeaway for your guests and are customizable to the happy couple!

The Fair Barn’s Vibrant List of Wedding Send-Offs

monogrammed flags and hear the cheers echo behind you as you board your getaway car. • Ribbon Wands with Bells — For ethereal couples with a love for fantasy, pass out these wands and revel in a symphony of chimes that enhance your fairy tale dream come true. • Bubbles — Bring out everyone’s inner child and watch your loved ones blow a sea of bubbles that catch the sun and create memorable photos with endless rainbows. • Finger Streamers — For a colorful and vibrant goodbye, consider finger streamers as they are easy to use and create an unforgettable impression. Keep in mind: teamwork makes this dream work as guests should pop their streamers simultaneously for best results. • Pom Poms — Fan favorite for sporty couples that love game-day cheers as guests line the path to Happily Ever After with colorful tinsel. • Glow Sticks — Crack those glow sticks and watch the sky light up with a frenzy of bright neons. Can you say rave the night away?●

Farewell with Flair: Trendy Alternatives for Your Send-Off • Light Sabers — May the Force of Love be with the newlyweds as guests protect and salute the lovely couple. • Leaf Confetti — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle for Romance. Use your favorite hole-punch to punch out shapes from fallen leaves and ease any environmental concerns you may have as guests throw handfuls of leaf confetti your way. • Biodegradable (Soap) Confetti — Similarly to leaf confetti, this option encourages an environmentally friendly way of bidding farewell, and smells good too! • LED Sparklers — Modern and memorable, these bright LED sparklers are great alternatives to traditional sparklers and reusable! • LED Balloons — For a unique and jaw-dropping wedding exit, distribute these to friends and family as you wave goodbye under gorgeous lights.

• Paper Airplanes — A perfect opportunity to provide your guests with a loose itinerary for the day, elicit nostalgic memories as they make their best airplane, and test their aim. Fun for the whole family! • Large Feathers — Roarin’ 20s lovers rejoice as large feathers have timeless charm and make great gifts for guests to take home and use in their next floral arrangement. Dreamy and vintage vibes galore. • Festive Flags — Let your guests root for Team Newlywed with Bride & Groom by PineStraw

Without a doubt, it’s guaranteed that you’ll find a wedding send-off that matches your personal vibe and wedding theme with so many trendy alternatives to help inspire you. No matter which you choose, allow The Fair Barn to serve as the ultimate backdrop for your dream wedding farewell. arissa Lycholaj and Griffin Ray met in Garmisch, Germany, where they were both attending a military language course. At the time, Griffin was in the Marines, and Larissa was in the Army. The two became fast friends while traveling Europe on their weekends off. “We had our first date in Venice, Italy, mostly by accident,” Larissa says. She wanted to see the world-famous glassblowing on Murano Island, and Griffin was the only other person in their friend group who was interested. “We had wine and seafood by the water, watched the glassblowing, and caught the last ferry back to the mainland when a storm blew in,” Larissa says. “During the ferry ride, Griffin wrapped his arms around me to keep me warm, and I just melted — we were basically living out the plot of a Hallmark movie!” After Griffin proposed at 1895 Grille during a birthday dinner for Larissa, the couple tied the knot in an outdoor ceremony at Duncraig Manor and Gardens on October 8, 2023. As a thoughtful touch, the newlyweds wrote personalized thank you notes ahead of time and placed them at each dinner setting. “We wanted our guests to feel loved and appreciated even if we couldn’t spend a lot of time with everyone who came to celebrate with us,” Larissa says.

isa Nines and Matthew Bettencourt bonded over turtles, snakes, and old architecture while clipping branches and removing debris from Hitchcock Creek to prepare for the Sandhills Children’s Center’s annual Duck Derby fundraiser. “It was like getting together with an old friend you haven’t seen in ages,” Lisa says. The two began dating and eight years later, while hiking through Morrow Mountain State Park with their faithful Dachshunds, Carnage and Kona, leading the way, Matthew dropped to one knee and proposed. Less than a year after, on October 14, 2023, the couple wed at Rubicon Farm, West End. In lieu of bridesmaids and groomsmen, Carnage and Kona served as the wedding party, complete with flashing collars so guests wouldn’t step on the dogs while dancing the night away. “Kona didn’t disappoint,” Lisa says. “He slipped his collar and decided to assist my son in walking me down the aisle.” Besides the canine wedding party, the Nines-Bettencourt wedding was full of other special touches. Lisa wore a vintage monogrammed heart necklace from her mom, who passed away in 1988; the aisle was fashioned from the couple’s cowhide rugs; and the couple transformed a retro Volkswagen bus into a photo booth.

Bubbly, Bites, and Bridal Bliss hen it comes to wedding planning, one of the most exciting moments for any bride-to-be is finding that perfect wedding dress. It’s a moment that’s been dreamed about since childhood. Finding “the one” is an incredible journey and that’s where Bride of the Pines steps in. They offer brides a unique, stress-free, and unforgettable bridal gown shopping experience. Located in the heart of the charming town of Aberdeen, Bride of the Pines is not just a bridal store; it’s a refreshing new take on bridal gown shopping. As soon as you step through the door, you’ll be greeted with warmth and enthusiasm by the store’s owner and wedding photographer, Kaitlyn Blake. Her knowledge as a luxury wedding photographer is what sets Bride of the Pines apart from others in the market. As a wedding photographer for the last nine years, Kaitlyn often witnessed firsthand how different gown styles, fabrics, and details enhanced a bride’s confidence and complemented a wedding’s venue and theme. She is familiar with the way gowns photograph in various settings, lighting conditions, and poses, which can influence a bride’s choice. “My experience as a wedding photographer has given me exclusive access to the best of the best in the industry. I have worked closely with Kleinfeld, had my weddings published in several national magazines, and I have personal relationships with my designers that started prior to me opening the boutique” Kaitlyn explains. This close connection with carefully curated designers not only fosters personal relationships but also facilitates seamless customization, open communication, and the availability of swift shipping options or rush orders. So, what is it that the average bride looks for in their wedding dress? According to Kaitlyn, it’s about being true to oneself on the big day. When brides visit Bride of the Pines, Kaitlyn dedicates time to first sit down and hear all about their wedding venue, gown ideas, and how they envision feeling on their special day. It’s a great starting point! However, Kaitlyn also has a knack for picking out “wild card” gowns that can be completely different from what brides initially had in mind. And often, that wild card gown turns out to be THE dress a bride says yes to. But there’s more to the wedding dress shopping process that brides should know but isn’t often discussed. Certain dresses may require up to a 4-month delivery period, not to mention the

additional time needed for alterations. To ensure a stress-free experience, it’s best to begin your wedding gown search at least 6 months prior to your special day. However, Bride of the Pines also offers expedited delivery options and immediate “Take Home Today” dresses, for brides with shorter timelines. Now, let’s dive into why Bride of the Pines is so special. 1. One-on-One Attention: Bride of the Pines believes in giving every bride their undivided attention. They close the boutique for every appointment, ensuring a personalized and intimate shopping experience. 2. Very Important Bride (VIB) Appointment: For those looking for an extra-special experience, the VIB appointment is perfect. It offers extra time in the boutique, additional guests, local goodies from Agora Bakery and the Bakehouse, and even a mimosa bar! The $300 fee for this appointment goes toward the purchase of your dream dress. 3. Inclusive Sizing: Bride of the Pines proudly carries gowns in sizes ranging from 00 to 26, ensuring that every bride can find a dress that makes them feel beautiful. 4. Exclusive Designers: They are the only boutique in the South to carry Ukrainian designer Luce Sposa and Elissar, providing brides with unique and exquisite options that can’t be found elsewhere. 5. Private Label Collection: Bride of the Pines offers a private label collection that is exclusively available at their boutique, giving brides the opportunity to own a one-of-a-kind gown. Kaitlyn Blake’s personal relationships with renowned designers also add an extra layer of uniqueness to Bride of the Pines. From Colby John to She is Cheval, Elissar to House of Savin, and Luce Sposa, Kaitlyn’s connections ensure that brides have access to the latest trends and impeccable customer service. In terms of inventory, Bride of the Pines boasts an impressive selection. With nine designers and over 100 gowns in-store, they offer a curated gown selection that has something for everyone without being overwhelming. They Thought of Everything . . .

I

n the business world, words such as these are music to the ears. The end goal is the same for all: to satisfy the client. It is extremely gratifying to know design, concept, and implementation met or exceeded expectations. Not to say there isn’t always room for improvement or to continuously grow, but in the moment, achieving happiness is paramount. Village Pine Venue believes that your wedding should be the same. Your entire team should be there to fulfill your dream! Their services should reflect that they have thought of everything…

In a League of Its Own

PHOTOGRAPHS BY JENNIFER B. PHOTOGRAPHY AND KAITLYN BLAKE PHOTOGRAPHY

Village Pine Venue has received this amazing compliment by almost every single bride, planner, vendor, and others that have toured the venue. They strive to be both vendor and user friendly. This brand new facility was designed around the niche amenities that were not offered anywhere else in Moore County. Village Pine Venue likes to say they are a full property experience. Special accommodations include early access to a spacious bridal house with two hair and makeup rooms, a changing room, serving bar, and living room. Adjoining the house is a covered outdoor pavilion that overlooks the private gardens.

Here Comes the . . . Groom!

Village Pine Venue offers two options for the groom! The groom’s garage is a living room space that would also be a great option for a band’s green room. The conference room is another option with a huge TV, a table for 14, a living room area, a serving bar, a restroom, and an outdoor balcony.

Timeless Southern Charm

Step into the extremely spacious gardens with timeless brick pathways, arched entries, raised garden beds with plants, flowers, and trees, and a large patio with an established dogwood as a focal point. Brick walls enclose the courtyard and provide the perfect backdrop for pictures. The whole property is a nod to the fabulous city of Charleston. Gas lanterns, beautiful brick, haint paint, balcony, iron work, and patio space are all special southern touches. 88

Bride & Groom by PineStraw

Vendor Friendly The main hall at Village Pine Venue is 5,000 square feet of open meeting space to accommodate up to 250 people for weddings. Four large garage doors open to the patio to expand that space by another 2,500 square feet. All overlooking a pond with a lighted fountain. A smaller garage door opens the fully equipped bar to the outdoors too. The bar includes lots of service counter space, refrigeration, four taps, and sinks.

Resolve the Kid Debate

The kids room offers an option to hire a sitter to watch guests’ children during the ceremony or throughout the event. A quiet space to watch a movie, play a video game, or bring in some activities for them to do.

Ceremony Locations

There are FIVE ceremony options: • The amphitheater across the pond has permanent built-in seating and a stage. • The garden offers at least three seating arrangements. • There is a 1,250 square foot flat lawn option overlooking the pond. • A covered option on the back porch. • And of course inside the main hall.

Bride & Groom by PineStraw

The vendor access end of the building provides a private parking area, with an oversized flat concrete pad for easy loading and unloading. A food truck hookup is also in this space, so catering can bring their mobile kitchen as an option. The prep kitchen in the building provides counters, ice machine, refrigerators, freezer, warmers, dishwasher, and sinks. Vendors also have their own restroom, a lounge area, and cubbies for their personal items.

They Truly Care . . .

When it comes to your wedding day, every detail counts, and the venue you choose can make all the difference. Village Pine Venue’s commitment to excellence, and attention to detail make them an ideal choice for couples seeking a personalized wedding experience. From the charming indoor spaces to the lovely gardens, Village Pine Venue offers a perfect backdrop for your love story to flourish and be shared with friends and family. Visit villagepinevenue.com for more information and inspiration by browsing their gallery. Feel free to call (910) 639-1730. lessandra Gironda married Matthew Beausoleil in a Cinderella gown after a very Cinderella proposal. On a vacation to Disney World for Alessandra’s birthday in 2022, Matt chartered a private cruise that stops in front of Cinderella’s Castle to watch the fireworks display. “The second that the first firework shot into the air, Matt was down on one knee and asked me to marry him,” Alessandra says. “Best birthday gift ever!” Fourteen months later, on October 14, 2023, Alessandra and Matt got married on the Pinehurst No. 2 golf course, followed by a fairytale reception at the Pinehurst Country Club Outlook Ballroom. During the reception, the newlyweds performed a choreographed first dance, and Alessandra, who worked as an NFL cheerleader, reclaimed her Carolina Panthers pom-poms for a special routine with her teammates. Then at the end of the evening, a Cinderella carriage rented from Southern Breeze Carriages pulled up to the venue and picked up the bride and groom, with “the cutest black horse ever” leading the way. “He loved my dress as much as I did, although maybe for different reasons,” Alessandra says. “He thought it looked like a tasty snack!”

aydreaming about your wedding day is a favorite pastime for recently engaged couples. As the day approaches, anticipation builds, and it’s nearly impossible to contain the sheer excitement that paints a wide, ear-toear smile across your face. Ensure your smile is sparkling as brilliantly as your shared love and head over to Pinehurst Dentistry for a prewedding touch up — or makeover — with smile expert Jordan Ridge, D.D.S. Jordan has collaborated with her father, Fred Ridge, D.D.S., since graduating from UNC’s Adams School of Dentistry. With her extensive knowledge and expertise, achieving a radiant smile and feeling confident on your big day has never been easier — it all starts with healthy gums and teeth. Whether you’re looking to craft a brand new smile with corrective aids like Invisalign and

veneers, or want a quick refresh through professional whitening services, Jordan is eager to help you prepare for your special day. Her skills coupled with the talented team at Pinehurst Dentistry will give you the confidence boost you’re craving for the happiest day of your life, free of insecurity.

Prioritize Self-Care

As you skim through your wedding planning to-do lists and scratch off tasks like finalizing the guest list, picking wedding colors, and confirming vendors, don’t forget to schedule self-care for the lovebirds. Whether exchanging vows is right around the corner or months to a year away, Jordan is able to accommodate any timeline and offers pre-wedding dental solutions. With at-home systems like Philips Zoom and Kör Deep Bleaching, couples can multitask by placing a cake order or completing the seating chart, while simultaneously brightening their smiles, ensuring perfect pearly whites on the big day. For couples seeking a quick fix, Jordan is able to help you achieve your dream look with veneers in just a day. When given a longer timeline, she and her team can straighten your smile with Invisalign, and have recently added a new service called microneedling to the Pinehurst Dentistry repertoire. Bride & Groom by PineStraw

“I have a lot of patients who are interested in how to improve their skin texture along with their smile, and I feel like the two go together,” Jordan says. “Microneedling helps you produce collagen naturally, which fills in fine lines and corrects texture; it also goes along with our office’s philosophy of treating the patient as a whole.” From the initial consultation through follow-up appointments, Jordan Ridge and Pinehurst Dentistry offer unparalleled customer service, support, and encouragement to get you ready for your wedding day.

Picture-Perfect Smiles

As your daydreams quickly become reality and your wedding countdown is close to zeroing out, make sure you have a dazzling smile on your face to commemorate the joyous occasion. rides spend a lot of time deciding what the menu will be for their wedding reception. That’s why it’s critical to carefully consider the budget, the food service style, whether it be a dinner or just heavy hors d’oeuvres, and how the choices match up with the wedding venue. Chef Brian Hainley and his wife, Alison, are here to help. Brian graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, and his food is well-known in the Sandhills. The Hainleys own and operate local hotspot Mason’s Restaurant and Grocery in Aberdeen, as well as the neighboring Pizzeria Grazia. With the wild success of their restaurants, the Hainleys decided to start Genuine Hospitality Catering and Events to accommodate the high demand for quality local caterers. Whether the wedding will be small and intimate or large enough to include “kissing cousins” and their plus-ones, the Hainleys have it covered. Genuine Hospitality Catering can serve parties with as few as 25 guests, up to 250.

On the Menu

98

PHOTOGRAPH BY COLETTE PHOTO

When creating your wedding menu, consider your personal taste. After all, it is your big day, remember? “One of the things we want to emphasize with brides is: Make yourself happy first,” Brian says. “Choose the foods you want to enjoy — that’s the most important thing.” Genuine Hospitality Catering might serve up Nashville chicken sliders with shrimp and grits if you like traditional Southern food. If you prefer steakhouse eats, the Hainleys Bride & Groom by PineStraw

might suggest a carving station paired with a seafood bar brimming with lobsters, crab legs, and raw oysters. Genuine Hospitality can make it all, so there really are no rules. If international flair tickles your taste buds, then opt for Asian fusion with tuna poke bowls or a Mexican spread complete with a street taco station. When the bride and groom can’t agree, Genuine Hospitality can help start a marriage right — with a little compromise. If the bride wants Mediterranean cuisine, but the groom prefers grandma’s Southern cooking, then your menu might range from grape leaves and couscous salad to spicy Nashville-style fried chicken. Genuine Hospitality Catering also provides a full-service bar and craft cocktails, as well as wine and beer.

Served With Style

Hiring a caterer familiar with all the local venues ensures that the wedding day runs smoothly. Luckily, Genuine Hospitality’s staff has Bride & Groom by PineStraw

worked at every major venue in the region, so the couple have nothing to fret about on the big day. “Depending on how elaborate you want to get with your catering and particularly with your service style, the venue is an important consideration,” Brian says. Recent service trends include heavy hors d’oeuvres, grazing stations, and charcuterie spreads. Family-style dinners are also gaining popularity. “We can accommodate any service style a bride prefers,” Brian says. “But family style is just something really cool that lends an intimacy to a meal that is so appropriate for a celebration like a wedding.”

Before You Go

From the first appetizer to the last drink, Genuine Hospitality Catering and Events knows how to serve a memorable meal — as long as you remember to plan. Brian recommends selecting your wedding venue and caterer a year in advance. The Hainleys are good at stretching a budget and suggesting affordable options. “Come to your catering appointment armed with your budget and guest count if you can,” says Brian. For more information, call (910) 447-2774 or visit genuinehospitalitycatering.com. Emsculpt Neo is a non-invasive treatment that helps eliminate and remove fat cells permanently from the body

Furthermore, it stimulates muscle growth, achieving an impressive 25% increase in muscle mass. • As for individuals suffering from urinary incontinence or looking to improve their sexual wellness, the Emsella is a breakthrough treatment that is completely non-invasive, which allows patients to remain fullyclothed and gain improvement in just a 28 minute session. Just one session of Emsella is equivalent to doing 11,200 kegels. • Emface lifts your face naturally, without surgery, and works by delicately toning the elevator muscles to produce a needle-free facelift. The treatment takes about 20 minutes and is non-invasive. • Vascular Institute of the Pines has a natural way to improve fine lines, wrinkles, and the smoothness of your skin with Exion. • Varicose vein treatment and Cosmetic sclerotherapy is also available at VIP and rids your legs of any unsightly veins through small injections to help you achieve smoother and flawless results so you can strut down the aisle with utmost confidence. Practices such as regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep not only contribute to a bride’s well-being on her wedding day, but also set the foundation for a healthier future. These positive habits will also benefit your vascular health and get you on the path to achieving optimal health that will last a lifetime. At Vascular Institute of the Pines, excellence and experience is highly valued. Specialized one-on-one consultations that dive into the detailed Bride & Groom by PineStraw

concerns of each patient are offered to better understand their health history and overall wellness. After collecting relevant background information, their talented team of professionals make note of the physical improvements patients would like to see and discuss how results can be achieved with VIP’s leading technology. Patients may see results after each treatment, but optimal results are 3 months from the last treatment because we’re permanently killing fat cells and they need time to excrete through the lymphatic system out of the body. It’s recommended that patients try to plan at least 3 to 4 months out from the wedding to see best results, as each treatment has its own timeline.
