About 8,000 women of Isabela joined the long street parade together with City Mayor Cherry Santos –Akbar, which culminated at the Isabela City Gym for a short program. According to the Philippine Women’s Commission (PWC), this year’s theme “Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa agenda,” resonates the call for gender balance in leadership and decision-making positions both in public and private sector, inclusion of women’s concerns in leadership platforms and government’s development agenda and capacitating and preparing women and girls to reach their ambition. Meanwhile, Mayor Akbar recalled her childhood experience of roaming around the City Hall to sell iced candies to its employees. “Sinong mag-aakala, ngayon, naglalakad na ako sa loob ng City Hall bilang Mayor (Who would have known, now, I am roaming inside the City Hall as the City Mayor),” she said. This is just one among the many

success stories of women who have made their marks in their respective fields of endeavors. Furthermore, Akbar encouraged the Juanas to remain resilient despite tribulations and difficulties and to not stop pursuing their ambition because no one knows what tomorrow can bring. City Councilor Maria Janessa Santos-Tubongnanua said “to give due importance to their significant contributions is by showing continuous “respect and support of life and empowerment of women.” In addition, because of the struggles women endured, the sacrifices they have made and the victories they have scored against, Tubongbanua affirms that this is, indeed, “the day of celebration for women.” Meanwhile, Police C/Supt. Oscar P. Nantes pleaded the women to continue their burning effort in combating criminalities by being the guiding light inside their respective homes and in all spheres of society. Different personalities from

the local government graced the event. Various comic performances were showcased by the members of the AFP and PNP as a tribute to women for their role in the society The crowd is a melting pot of women representing their different barangays and women

organizations wearing shirts with their distinctive colors. City Councilor and women’s right advocate Nida P. Dans explained that even they varied in colors they are united as one like a rainbow. “Many colors but there is only one beautiful rainbow of women,” she said.

DIPOLOG CITY (PIA) – “The total crime volume in Zamboanga del Norte has decreased by 826 or 38.03 percent for the months of January 1 to March 11 this year as compared in 2015.” This was the statement of of the Provincial Peace and Order Zamboanga del Norte Police Council (PPOC) and the Provincial Provincial Office (ZNPPO) Director Anti-Drug Council (PDAC) held PSSupt. Accordingly, for the said period, the index crime was reduced by 39.10 percent while the nonindex crime was reduced to 36.20 percent compared last year. “The crime solution efficiency in the province wherein suspects were apprehended and cases were filed in court was increased by 3.32 percent and the crime clearance with cases were filed in court but identified suspects were not arrested was increased by 10.41 percent,” Director Wagan explained. As of March 11 this year, an estimated Php 620, 000 worth of illegal drugs were confiscated and 46 persons were arrested for

violation of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Moreover, with the implementation of the COMELEC gun ban, 16 persons were arrested with 17 firearms confiscated by police officers. Meanwhile, according to ZNPPO, there are 657 voting centers with 3, 994 established precincts in the province which has an ideal security personnel ratio of 1-to2. “We could not reach our ideal ratio, so we only have a target ratio of 1:1. Thus, we only lack 43 with the given total number of our deployable police officers,” ZNPPO Operations Officer PO2

Ruben N. Veloro said in a phone interview with PIA. He emphasized that the decrease of crime rate in the province was due to the operation of Oplan Lambat-Sibat, which is a deliberate, programmatic, and sustained approach taken by the Philippine National Police (PNP)

to combat criminality nationwide using both wide dragnet and intel-targeted operations. “Our rigid implementation of the gun ban since the last quarter of 2015 contributed a lot in preventing the commission of crimes and in apprehending suspects,” Veloro stated.

ZAMBOANGA CITY – “The total crime volume in Zamboanga del Norte has decreased by 826 or 38.03 percent for the months of January 1 to March 11 this year as compared in 2015.” Safety officers/designates coming from different areas in the region have been undergoing a basic occupational safety and health course at the Garden Orchid Hotel here since Monday, March 14 and will wind up today, March 18. Medina town to showcase 5th Hinuklog streetplay on Holy Thursday, Good Friday By: Archel Z. Cloma

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The local government of Medina, Misamis Oriental is inviting all believers of Christ to come and be part of Hinuklog, a Streetplay of the Passion of Christ in the municpality of Medina, Misamis Oriental during the Holy Thursday and Good Friday on 24-25 March 2016.

Now on its fifth year, Hinuklog is continually triumphant in making a mark in many lives. Involving around 200 people, Hinuklog has been the major event of the town during Holy Week where people of different status in life and political party come and meet together with one purpose- to commemorate and meditate the essence of Jesus Christ’s death at the cross. With the administration of Mayor Ken Niño T. Uyguangco, the sustainability of the said streetplay is ensured as he spearheaded the creation of Hinuklog Council composed by the San Isidro Labrador Parish Church, the Local Government Unit of Medina, the Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB), Department of Education (Medina District) and other sectors in the community. Considered as equally important are the other stakeholders, namely: San Isidro Labrador Parish Council; Axellum Resources Corp.; Medina Tourism Council, Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental, Lumagnong Magdudula sa Medina (LUMAGMED), MORESCO II, Rural Bank of Medina, Duka Bay Resort Inc., MERWASCO, Didto sa Among Lungsod (Medina Overseas Community) and Medina Business Sector. Furthermore, what sustains the said streetplay is the endorsement of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Tourism and the recognition by the National Commission on Culture and

the Arts (NCCA). Apparently, from its revival, to its planning, actual conduct and evaluation, Hinuklog has been made possible by the relevant stakeholders and of course by the people of the community, particularly the parishioners who majorly comprise the municipality’s population. Indeed, Hinuklog is not of the Catholic Church nor of the Local Government but of the people, by the people and for the people of the Municipality of Medina. With the visible strong collaboration, the municipality patronizes the locally-owned religious activity and of great honor, promoting Hinuklog as one of Medina’s pride. Evidently, for five years of existence, the number of participants did increase. In fact, some parishioners who traditionally go to the island of Camiguin for the past years, preferred to stay in the town for the sake of Hinuklog for the sense of ownership has been developed. The gathering is indeed a visible proof that Medina, from a municipality fallen into a deep sleep has now awaken and stood and is proudly advancing.
