OPAPP chief asks for public support to peace process By Franklin P. Gumapon DIPOLOG CITY - Secretary Teresita QuintosDeles of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) has invited all the stakeholders to support the peace process. In yesterday’s press statement issued by OPAPP, Secretary Deles disclosed in meeting with her staff and employees that the GPH-MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) peace table would be reaching the substantive stage and that the three-day peace negotiations which started Monday in Kuala Lumpur would be very crucial, thus needing everybody’s support. Deles also believed that the formal talks between the government and the MILF would yield positive results that will lead “to achieving a political solution to the decades-old armed conflict.” “There are numerous challenges in the different fronts of governance.

Nevertheless, we are hoping that ‘tuwid na daan’ (straight path) will continue to guide us. It is the only way to achieve peace,” the OPAPP chief stressed. Deles added “the President aims not only to sign (the peace agreement) within his term but also to implement and assess signed peace agreements and not pass it to the next administration.” The decades-old armed conflict in Mindanao has already taken toll on the political and economic landscape in the island especially in areas identified as “conflict areas.” (JPA/FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte) Friday, February 17, 2012
